If you are looking for an additional musical treat before our next concert on the 29th June then The Songbird Trio’s concert (part of the Burford Festival) on Wednesday 12th June at 8pm at the Warwick Hall, Burford could be the answer. Three classically trained opera singers, Helen Sherman, Carleen Ebbs and Claire Egan who have performed in exciting venues around the world including the Royal Opera House, English National Opera, the Wigmore Hall, the Sydney Opera House and fu...rther afield in Europe and New Zealand will perform a surprising variety of genres from opera to folk to pop. Their programme ranges from well-known opera hits and songs, including works from Purcell, Mozart and Puccini to Kurt Weill, Joni Mitchell and Doris Day. They will be joined by concert pianist and accompanist Marc Verter, viola player Ronan MacManus and Arngeir Hauksson (principal player and MD for Shakespeare’s Globe) on theorbo lute and renaissance guitar, to add that romantic frisson to the evening. Tickets cost £12 (under 18s £4) from www.ticketsource.co.uk/burford-festival.< br> See More

Burford Orchestra’s summer concert, on Saturday 29 June, 7.30pm at Burford School, is dedicated to works inspired by Romeo and Juliet – Shakespeare’s famous star-crossed lovers. We will start with Tchaikovsky’s Fantasy Overture followed by a selection of pieces from Prokofiev’s ballet, including the instantly-recognisable Dance of the Knights (known as the theme tune for the TV series the Apprentice) and finish with the spectacular Symphonic Dances from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.

I'm sure the Burford Orchestra members are happy that we have slightly fewer accidentals to play in this term's music! (I'm confident though that all the orchestra members will immediately recognise this tune!)

A fantastic concert last night. Huge thanks to our soloist Craig Greene for a captivating performance of Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto.
