BURNBAKE is the perfect base from which to enjoy the big Christmas build-up.
While we are tucked away in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck, we’re only a 30-minute drive from Bournemouth, where all the festive action takes place from November 16th.
Visitors to Bournemouth will enjoy a Christmas season to remember when the fabulous Christmas Tree Wonderland comes to town.
... The wonderland, a unique trail featuring more than 100 glittering trees and illuminations, will be delivered by the team behind the town’s award-winning air festival.
The free trail will open on November 16, starting at the illuminated big wheel at Approach.
It will then weave its way through the Lower Gardens, featuring iconic themed trees from cities around the world including Moscow, St Petersburg, Bethlehem, Seattle and Warsaw, as well as a Tree of Light and canopy of cascading lights over Pine Tree Walk.
The centrepiece will be the Bournemouth Wonderland Tree, a 60ft spectacle comprising 30,000 individual lights programmed for regular sound and light shows.
A giant teddy bear, huge bauble, gingerbread people and animated polar bears, fairies and elves will also be found along the way.
There’s also a Santa’s grotto and entertainment.
Burnbake's general manager, Chris Wyburgh, said: “Bournemouth’s festive offering makes it a real Christmas destination this year.
“Staying at our luxury lodges and at the same time being able to enjoy all that’s going on in town, is the perfect combination for a pre-Christmas break.

We've just returned from our first family camping weekend. What a great campsite, we were in the events field, which was perfect. Masses of space for games and the family we went with (who are experienced campers) were able to light their stove. The campsite rent out firepits as well. Good facilities, plenty of hot water. Very helpful and friendly people at reception. We will definitely return. Thank you.

We spent two nights over Easter at Burnbake in our VW T5 and can't wait to return. A lovely rustic forest setting, the campsite felt like we were in the wilds. We hired a fire pit from the shop and it was nice to sit around the camp fire late into the evening. The toilets and showers were modern and immaculately clean and couldn't be faulted. It is a very child friendly site and our almost 5 year old loved running around with his new friends, playing at the play area and riding his bike through the woods. Already planning our next visit!

Love this campsite, very friendly, can pitch pretty much anywhere you want to. Plenty places to go for a walks.

I love Burnbake campsite! Otherwise I wouldn't have been coming for 30 years! We first brought our children when they were small, now we are bringing our grandchildren! Last year (in the school holidays) my husband and I came with our adult daughter..... didn't matter we didn't have kids! We loved the atmosphere! Loved the long walk through forests to the Agglestone Rock passing Franks tank.....that's been there since we started coming in 84....it wasn't new then! We come back because we like the atmosphere....it's the best!

Hadn't visited for around 15 years so wasn't sure what to expect - but loved it. Yes, it's changed - there are chalets - but still lots of space to camp. We found space to pitch 2 large tents and still have space around us. Ok it's not high season but it was still busy by Saturday evening. There are still wild woody areas away from the central area. I remember the 'glens' that have gone but for me it hasn't spoilt it. We don't have kids so I can't speak about the playgrounds, although all the children I saw seemed to be having fun. Good little shop onsite for essentials. The showers worked very well, are hot and are free. Also, super little cafe onsite Fri/Sat/Sun (I think) with a great menu. Sea bass on offer on Saturday night - great choice for breakfast too! Lots of happy campers at Burnbake this weekend!

Great site.

Fab walks and an awesome setting

Toilets got a bit grubby as it got busier but will definitely come again

User

Great facilities, staff were helpful and I would recommend the site to others.

User

Brilliant campsite with excellent facilities. Get early for decent spot and electric pitches are huge and have water taps in the trees. We have a trailer tent, 6birth tent and 3 cars on ours.

Middle field looked busy but not packed and plenty areas of shade. Was worried about comments but very happy and will be going back.

User

Beautiful, quiet campsite that does the basics well. TIP: use the old showers, way hotter and way more power! Also, many thanks to the kindly campers that left us their leftover wood when they packed up and we while we were out for the day. It was lovely to come back to and we had blazing fires the rest of our stay.

User

4th year visiting! Great as always and staff are helpful and fun sooo tidy, even after the bank holiday weekend.

User

Very helpful staff and good clean facilities

Our first trip to this site will not be our last. Recommended by a friend who had been coming to burnbake for 30 years. I can see why. As close to wild camping as you will get on a site. The children ran about and made friends to play with, rope swings and a general convivial vibe . Camp fires at night make such a difference to the overall experience. Camping as it used to be and should be. Thank you Burnbake for a lovely holiday and time to relax with my family.

User

I'm not a regular camper and am certainly no expert but this place did have a lovely vibe and did the job. We had a great time with family. Toilets and showers were new and modern but showers were a major disappointment. Cold water trickling out is not what you need in the morning after having a cold night. Shame.

I would like to say how impressed we were with the shop, had everything you need. Also the cafe was great. We had a lovely take away one evening. It was delicious, great value for money and a credit to the camp site.

User

Good site.

The main site was really busy, I wouldn't have liked to be crammed in there and probably wouldn't go to that area. But we were a large group booked in the events field. It was nice to have the space for the kids to run around and the woods to explore.

Showers and toilets were fine and handy to have a washing machine:/ tumble dryer especially as it poured the day we arrived and we all got soaked putting the tent up.

Major put off is the price of wood sold in the shop. £6 a net is extortionate especially as it was for only half a net, which was 6 logs!!!! I complained and was given an extra net. But we camp a lot and we only pay £4 or £4.50 a FULL sack. Twice as much for a cheaper price. The wood was also so new it didn't burn well at all.

Aside from that we enjoyed our stay

Fab campsite. We loved being able to just pick a spot and pitch up amongst the trees. Campsite was busy but didn’t feel cramped at all. Lovely area. Only niggles were the oversized logs that didn’t burn great and while the shop was lovely it was a bit over priced. Shower facilities were adequate enough but took a while to warm up as each press only lasts a few seconds. However, I appreciate this is an energy saving concept.

All in all we had a fantastic time and we’re already planning a return visit in August

We have just returned from a fabulous long weekend at Burnbake. The location of this site is great for walkers and cyclists and there are loads of safe routes for all abilities. It's just 3 miles from the beautiful beaches at Studland and our teenagers enjoyed cycling the route. We walked and found it tough - if you're taking small children it's probably best to drive to the beach. The whole site is alive with laughter and the sound of children playing and at night most people sit around a fire with newly made friends (if you like a quiet site then this one isn't for you) It's great for watching the stars at night. The facilities are rustic and very basic and at certain times they can be very busy. There was plenty of hot water though. The little travelling cafe was great and the Sunday roast was one of the best I have tasted and well worth the wait - it's freshly cooked so be prepared for a long wait. The little shop is fairly basic but has everything you need and the staff are happy and helpful. This is one of our favourite camp sites, we love the atmosphere, the location, the staff, the walks and cycle routes. The reason we give it 3 stars is because of the toilets and showers which could do with a make-over.

We've been camping at Burnbake for the last 23 years and our children have such happy memories of many holidays camping there. However, although we've tried to be open minded about the recent changes, when we arrived on Tuesday of this week, we were utterly disappointed at the scale of the developments - it was more like a housing estate. Needless to say having driven around a couple of times, decided that Burnbake wan't for us, so I'm afraid we camped elsewhere. I'm just so glad our children had the enjoyment and experiences of Burnbake as it was until last year, unlike those growing up now! What's been done is so sad - Burnbake used to have something special about it not found elsewhere, but I'm afraid its no longer the case.
