Wow, quite a bit going on here at the Burrell. We have finalised our Spring/Summer season which will be starting in March. We have some incredible theatre lined up for everyone. We are really excited about welcoming back Pipeline Theatre Company with 'Drip Drip Drip, their darkly comic and taboo-busting journey through an NHS phantasmagoria. Also, theatre alibi are back with 'Falling', an exploration of what happens when life swallows you whole and terror is only a heartbeat ...away. Then we have the latest from Trifle Gathering Productions with their bravest theatre project to date, ‘Endless featuring N:Dless’. A collision of live music, comedy, pop videos and documentary interviews.
On top of this, we are proud to announce that we have Frozen Light visiting us. They create theatre for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Their work means so much to people all over the UK, and we look forward to welcoming them to Cornwall.
And this is just the thick lashings of creamy icing on the tasty cake baked up here in the cosy Theatre Office. We have been working on becoming more and more environmentally friendly. No longer will we fill the recycling bin with unnecessary paper tickets, no more single use plastic, and this is just the start. And it does not stop there, as we have the ongoing refurbishments happening in the various Burrell spaces. 2019 is set to be a very exciting year indeed. Bring it on

We have been getting festive here at the burrell. Getting into the spirit in time for the Christmas show by Last Baguette on 21st dec

A family show for Christmas inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s traditional tale. London. Christmas Eve. The snow is falling. A little girl struggles fiercely through the cold. We follow her throughout the day as she encounters the funny and zany characters of the vibrant city streets. In an attempt to stay warm she strikes a match, then a second and third. In the cold the flames blaze to life and the flickering fire illuminates her fantastic Christmas visions. With each ...strike we enter the tumultuous world of her imagination, meeting talking turkeys, dancing rats, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their chattering Christmas tree.
Having delighted audiences in 2017 The Last Baguette return with this touching, madcap and heart-warming Christmas show. The company use their signature style of visual storytelling, live music and puppetry to shine a light on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic winter tale.
Written by T. A. Woodsmith, winner of the Sunday Times Playwriting Award.
“The energy and commitment of the company is infectious… beautiful imagery and memorable moments. This is unique theatre with a great heart” Theatre Bath

Based on the tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Hyde & Seek is a macabre ghost story with occasional spattering of vaudevillian humour. The story expands on the world of the original narrative; and the friendly, yet haunted former stage-door man, Albert, tells a grisly tale of the further misdeeds of Mr Hyde and his ‘acquaintance’ - the tormented genius Dr Jekyll. Using specially designed self-contained lighting effects Hyde and Seek is a chilling and intimate story-telling exper...ience: ghostly figures are glimpsed briefly before vanishing, characters appear out of nowhere, and what you can’t quite see becomes a lot more disconcerting than what you can. Set in a long-abandoned theatre in Victorian London, the show has a theme of vaudeville running through it resulting in darkly comic song, dance, puppetry and even ventriloquism, which interweave with the story. Written by Ben Oldfield (Cube). Created by Michael Tonkin-Jones (Spillikin) and Ciaran Clarke (Near-Ta Theatre). Performed by Michael Tonkin-Jones (Spillikin).

Contemporary singer songwriter Lucy O’Day lays thought-provoking vocals over original jazz score, written and performed by internationally acclaimed pianist, Simon Latarche. Wistful and powerful, uplifting and haunting, this exciting new collaboration is a celebration of the emotive power of jazz. You’ll be lulled by Lucy’s soulful vocal and carried away on every note of Simon’s carefully crafted score.
Stepping into the jazz scene from her commended singer songwriter roots,... Lucy’s contemporary lyrics and heartfelt delivery are perfectly accompanied by pianist and composer, Simon Latarche. Performing across the UK for over two decades, and au fait with genre-spanning standards, Simon’s original compositions are dedicated to his first love, jazz.
Together Lucy and Simon conjure a timeless, atmospheric sound inspired by such female jazz greats as Nina Simone, infused with Spankie Wilson-esque soul and notes of Norah Jones.
