Studies have shown 10-40% of people with a visual impairment may experience Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS).
CBS involves electrical impulses along the optic nerve, causing the brain to hallucinate in order to make sense of gaps in vision. This is not a mental health condition, and has been compared to symptoms of having a "phantom limb" (people with an amputated limb who still feel their fingers, toes or itching from their missing limb).
Hallucinations may appear as patterns o...r lines, to more elaborate images, such as people or animals.
For further info visit: charlesbonnetsyndrome.uk (Esme's Umbrella)
Or call the CBS helpline: 020 7391 3299

We recently met with Working Well Early Help to learn of their services.
They offer free telephone support for people in the Greater Manchester area, including Bury and Rochdale. Supporting people with a health condition or disability who are off sick from work / at risk of falling out of work, or, those newly unemployed (within 6 months) due to health issues or a disability, causing a barrier to employment.
They have lots of diverse and tailored support under your personal 2...6 week programme, and can liaise with DWP, job centres and employers.

Building Work Update:
Well, having said it was all happening behind closed doors, it appears it didn’t happen! Unfortunately, the builders were not in last week, so have not completed by the end of June.
However, we have been assured that the work will be completed soon. We will keep you posted and hope that at the next User Forum, Thursday 11 July, we will be reporting that it is all finished!! Fingers crossed! 🤞🤞

Carolyn, our resident podiatrist, is currently looking after her daughter so will not be back until the September appointments. However, we are so thankful to Dougie Warrington, the podiatrist at The Jubilee Centre, (Age UK Bury), has ‘stepped in’ to help for July & August.
We wish Carolyn and her daughter well.

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our Garden Party (13th July), as it looks as if all the building work will take a little longer than anticipated.
The good news is, this gives you the opportunity to attend The Bury The Met 11am-3pm on Saturday 13th July for a Summer Showcase! Engage 2 Stage, Met Express, Aiming High and Bury’s young theatre company are performing.
Tickets are £5 each and can be purchased from The Met Theatre or speak to a member of the drama group and... they can pick tickets up for you.
News of a revised date for our Garden Party will be issued as soon as the building work is complete.

Have you or a family member or friend been affected by a stroke and live in/around Bury? If so then we’d like to invite you to our Bury Stroke Group.
We are meeting tomorrow, 2nd July, 1-3pm in the main lounge at: Hollycourt, 2 Pimhole Road... Bury BL9 7HU
We meet once a month for a brew, biscuits and a chat. We sometimes have guest speakers too. If you’re unable to make tomorrow then our next meeting is Tuesday 6th August where Shelley from BEATS is coming along.
In Bury alone there are over 200 people a year who have a stroke. It can be a very lonely and frustrating path. Talking to like minded people who understand what you’re going through can really make a difference which is why the group was set up.
Please join our Facebook page - Bury Stroke Group where we keep information up to date.
