Our main objective is to share great music, music that might have gone un-noticed, music that not only has the potential to reach out to a wide range of listeners, but that also stands for originality, innovation and reflects the remarkable achievements of our students. However, we feel that it’s not only the creators that should be represented; we should also represent the students who devote their time to studying the music industry, the students who feel passionately about change and who will perhaps be the innovators of tomorrow's music industry. In a ‘nut shell’, C3U Records aims to facilitate students’ creative ideas, from creating to sharing.

The Process:
Although C3U Records has a co-ordinator, it’s the students who run the engine that powers the sharing of music and sound works with new audiences. At the beginning of each academic year C3U Records opens its doors to artists, providing them with the opportunity of handing in their demos. Once all the work is handed in, it’s then passed on to student groups studying on our Record Label Management module. They listen to each demo and decide which artists they want to work with, based on what each party has to offer. The groups are usually made up of around 3 students whose primary goal is to establish ways of sharing the music /work; it could be through developing a record release, booking a live tour, designing a marketing campaign, organising exhibitions etc. Once each group has chosen an artist to work with, the idea is that they will dedicate their time, energy and passion in to sharing that work.

Once each group has its artist, each has their own unique approach to sharing music; the Record Label Management module puts particular emphasis on collaboration, so that students are able to tap into each other’s skill sets.

Aside from individual project work, each group will be taught, mentored and guided by the C3U Records co-ordinator. It’s his /her job to aid the development of the projects, providing experience, networks and ideas to each group. It’s also the role of the C3U Records co-ordinator to unlock and facilitate innovative approaches within these groups, enabling them to take on an open-minded outlook of the ‘music industry’.

The outcome of this whole process is several music sharing /release projects, each with a designated team behind them.
