We are very happy to introduce to all our friends, Alma Tischlerwood! The photos i’ve taken don’t do justice to the quality of the work, but i strongly recommend you come and see them in the cafe to really appreciate them!
In Alma’s latest series of Sky paintings childhood memories, such as lying in the grass, gazing in the sky are revisited.
The artist sets up a thought-provoking scenario by placing a Sky painting next to an abstract painting depicting the Burberry Brit Eau ...de Cologne for men pattern.
The human mind is versatile and can inhabit different realities simultaneously.
But who is to say whether the reality of rectangles and proportions are any less ‘intense’ than the experience of gazing into a Summer sky?
For the viewer, they are a matter of personal preference and perception. The visitor is invited to invent their own connections between these paintings. In her work, Alma focuses on the presentation of colour and patterns, characterised with a witty irony, suggesting a philosophical world in which materiality and language invoke one another.
Shortly after her studies of Fine Art (MA) at the Munich Art Academy 1980 –1986 (aside from many other Awards) Alma won the prestigious Arts Council of Munich’s Annual Award for painting. Since settling in London (1988) she has been greatly supported by The Arts Council England, The Goethe Institute and Council Général de I’Oise for projects to travel, work and exhibit in India, Brazil, Chile, France and Switzerland.
Alma’s art is represented in many collections some of which include Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Sumitumo Bank, European Patent Office Collection, Den Haag, Reuters London, Vera Engelhorn, New York, Arts Council Munich, Arts ~Council EnglandCinven amongst many others.

Alma recently joined the Friends of Holland Park to pursue her interest in urban nature.

Today 12 years ago Cafe Phillies was born! We've had so much fun serving over 950 thousand people over the years, making over 9m cups of coffee,breaking more then 1,1m eggs, serving over 0.5m English Breakfasts, juicing over 13 thousand boxes of oranges,making over 2900 of our Amazing Apple Tarte's , and still going strong! As a matter of fact we are only getting better as we grow older, maturing like a good french wine. So, today with great pride and gratitude, i wish all my amazing team and family a very Happy Anniversary and many more happy and healthy years together! Lots of love to you all...ilir
