Cakeyface Description

I've made Birthday cupcakes for friends and family for some years but I’d never really considered baking as a hobby until last Christmas (2012). My father made the family Christmas cake every year but had recently become too ill to continue the tradition. It was at this point my Hubby and I offered to give it a go and decided that, just like my Mum and Dad, Ant would bake and I would decorate. Seeking advice first from both sets of parents - and then from YouTube - Anthony soaked fruit, mixed and baked the dark fruit cake and then drenched it in brandy; it was a labour of love but it produced something moist and delicious.

When it came to my turn of decorating the cake I was worried I’d ruin Anthony’s hard work. Seeking inspiration from Google Images and books by my hero, Kirstie Allsopp, I studied video after video online and slowly crafted the Christmas cake and figures that appear first in my photo gallery. Delighting in the entire process, I became hooked, and soon began dragging my long-suffering hubby to cake decoration and craft shops.

These days, I spend hours in our little kitchen making a mess, immersing myself in a cloud of icing sugar. Anthony doesn't get involved in any of the baking; in fact his biggest contribution is staying well out of the way! This, I think, is why god invented football.
