**Daily golf fix alert** The greens have been cut this morning and given a 2 minutes watering. If we mentioned water a month ago you would have laughed. Look good, ready for your return!

For those asking about our 8th green this week the bunker has been drained and repaired with fresh sand added. The green has been double dressed with a heavy sand based top dressing, seed has been injected into the badly damaged areas from lying water and this seed will germinate once the temperature reaches 10 degrees. Once the seed is established the green will be micro tined and verti cut to remove any unwanted wet thatch.

Our question for you today is... What part of your golf game do you struggle with most off the tee?

Did you know..?
A correctly repaired pitchmark will recover in 24 hours. However, an unrepaired pitchmark left unattended for two hours will take up to two months to recover.
Now that the season has started, the increase in numbers playing on the courses means that inevitably more pitchmarks will be made on the greens. However, there is no excuse for not repairing them after you have made one.
... The increased numbers arise despite just about every golfer I speak to speak to saying, “Why can’t people repair their pitchmarks?” Everyone you talk to always claim that they repair 3 or 4 on every green!
As well as looking unsightly, from a golfing point of view, pitchmarks can affect ball roll and cause a player’s putt to bobble and deviate offline. Studies have shown that on average, a golfer will make 8 pitchmarks during a round of golf. If 130 rounds are played per day, that’s over 1,000 pitchmarks per week; no surprise then that it can be difficult to hole a putt!
It isn’t just about attempting to repair the pitchmark… it is about repairing it properly. Many golfers out there do not know how to do it correctly and damage the grass in the process….
In summary, you should take your pitchmark tool and insert the prongs into the turf at the edge of the depression. Do NOT insert the prongs into the depression itself, but at the rim of the depression. Then push the edge of the repairer toward the centre, using the tool in a gentle twisting motion. Do NOT insert and attempt to push up the depression as this only leads to tearing the root and killing the grass.

The 10th green today.... before and after the dressing has been matted in.

Our Greenkeepers have made the most of the sunshine again today. The rough has been mown, buggy paths topped and brushed in, greens hand mown to keep the heavier machines off whilst they are still soft in places, bunker banks mown and greens top dressed. All in preparation for our return!

“Good golf begins with a good grip.” Ben Hogan
“A correct grip is a fundamental necessity in the golf swing.” Bobby Jones
“Without a proper grip no player can expect to hit accurate shots with even a fair degree of consistency.” Gary Player
... “The grip is the most important single consideration in learning to play winning golf.” Byron Nelson
“A good grip is the one which lets the player hit the most good shots.” Dr. Gary Wiren
“The grip is the starting point to controlling the club face, the most important aspect in hitting straight golf shots” Jamie Cundy
When teaching the grip, I look for the four P’s: 1. Placement – The placement of the hands on the grip in a vertical axis (how far up and down the shaft is each placed?). 2. Positioning – The amount of rotation of the hands clockwise or counterclockwise (generally referred to as “strong” or “weak”). 3. Pressure – How hard one is squeezing the club. 5. Precision – Either one grips the club in a precise fashion (the same way each time) or is careless about the grip so that it is seldom the same.
From these basics, I work with the student to determine the best grip, then evaluate how the grip works with the student’s natural swinging motion. Trial and error and lots of practice will be required and worth every minute.
