About Calderwood House

Calderwood House is a social enterprise set up in Copeland to assist ex-service personnel and those over 25 who have found themselves homeless.

Calderwood House Description

Calderwood House is a social enterprise in Egremont, Cumbria. The project has been set up to aid ex-military servicemen and those over the age of 25 who have unfortunately found themselves homeless.

While residing at Calderwood House residents will be expected to take ownership and responsibility for their lives, for each other, and for the people around them.

Staying at Calderwood House will be a positive and active experience. It will be a place where people can develop skills and confidence. Where they can rebuild and take control of their lives, and prepare themselves to make a positive contribution to their community. The residents will work with the staff and volunteers on a range of projects within their local community, which in turn will integrate Calderwood House into the local area.

Over a six month period residents will have help securing permanent accommodation, training programs, apprenticeships and learn 'real life' living skills, such as budgeting, cooking, and cleaning.

Our objectives are to:

-Reduce homelessness
-Unemployment
-Offer 2 apprenticeships per year in the second year for formerly homeless people
-Successfully integrate homeless people back into society
-Learn the importance of the “family unit” - taking care of each other rather than just ourselves
-Identify skills of each and every resident and utilise these effectively
-Break down unhelpful fears and negative ideas of employment amongst homeless people, through building relationships with local employers and to highlight employment opportunities
