At Calvary we, like John the Baptist, want to call everybody’s attention to Jesus Christ.
​
The Bible describes human beings as sinners – those who disobey and rebel against God. We read that the human heart is “desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17: 9) and that “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3: 10).
​
The Bible also teaches that God, being holy and just, must punish sinners, and that because of our wrongdoing we are in danger of facing God’s everlasting and infinite anger.

There is, however, Good News!
​
In perhaps the most well-known part of the Bible, Jesus explains: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3: 16-17).

Jesus Himself is that Son of God – the One who “takes away the sin of the world”.
​
He achieved this by living a life on earth in perfect obedience to God the Father. He then gave up His life, dying on a cross and enduring the punishment for sin. Three days later He rose again.
​
We can never make ourselves right with God, no matter how many good things we try to do, how well-intentioned we are, or how often we go to church!
​
But if we believe in Jesus Christ, trust in Him as our Lord and Saviour, and are truly sorry for our sins, then those sins can be forgiven. There is no longer any fear of punishment, because Jesus has borne the punishment for us. We never have to face God’s everlasting anger, but instead enjoy His gift of everlasting life.
