The Russell Society is a forum run by students of Cambridge University, which is dedicated to open-minded discussion on topics concerning war, militarism, the arms trade, human rights and peace-keeping. We are named after the esteemed Cambridge philosopher and committed anti-war activist Bertrand Russell.
Our ultimate goals are to blueprint a world in which warfare and violence cease to play a role in global politics.
While we are not an activist group, we see it as our duty to question the values and practices in society which serve to perpetuate violence on a global scale, as well as to propose peaceful solutions to the violent conflicts which continue to plague the world today.
As a pacifist organisation, we will always direct our discussions and debates towards finding peaceful solutions to current problems. However, we value open-minded, non-partisan debate and therefore endeavour to include a wide range of views in our events. In short, we are not here to tell others what to think- we are here to ask questions and to seek answers.
To achieve this, we organise speaker sessions, debates and forums in which we discuss a wide range of topics, all of which examine different aspects of the struggle for global peace from a broad, multidisciplinary perspective. We also encourage our members to submit essays for publication on our website.
We are a brand new society and would love for you to get involved! If you are interested in discussing practical solutions to conflicts worldwide, feel strongly about pacifism and value open-minded debate, then please like our page for further updates.
