About Cambridge University Women'S Boat Club

Founded in 1941, Cambridge University Women's Boat Club to compete against its Oxford counterpart in the annual University Boat Race. The Club prepares three crews to beat Oxford in the Boat Races: Two Open-weight Eights (Blue Boat and Blondie, the reserve crew) and a Lightweight Eight (CUWBC Lightweights). In addition to the Boat Races, the Club also competes in major national competitions such as the British Rowing Championships, the Fuller's Head of the River Fours, the Women's Eights Head of the River Race and the British Universities & Colleges' Sport ("BUCS") Head and Regatta. The Club has many notable alumni who have gone on to row or cox for Great Britain and continues to encourage and support athletes within the squad who aspire to row for their national teams. CUWBC has been represented at every Olympic Games since the introduction of Women's races to the Olympic Regatta in 1976.
