About Cancer Research Uk Cambridge Institute

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute aims to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems associated with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, focusing on the practical application of high-quality basic research into patient care. The Institute is based in the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with close links to research partners within the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre including the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Hospitals, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the Gurdon Institute. Core funded by Cancer Research UK and part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute is home to 23 research groups and over 400 members of staff. The research strategy focuses on four key areas: 1. Basic research into the cellular and molecular biology of cancer. 2. Research in molecular imaging, genomics, bioinformatics and computational biology. 3. Research focused on specific cancers, which form a link between laboratory and clinic. 4. Clinical investigations including experimental medicine clinical trials and, in the longer term, population-based studies in screening and prevention.
