The plants have arrived! Volunteers will be busy planting around the upper lake over the next few weeks in sessions led by our contractors Ebsford Environmental, who have been on site since March. The new planting will add plenty of colour and provide a natural habitat for our wildlife. Work should be completed by September with the lakes fully open to the public in the Spring once the plants are fully established.

We are excited as years of planning are finally coming together, and the £3 million transformation of our Georgian lakes is well underway, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund thanks to The National Lottery!
The banks on the upper lake are now formed and ready for planting, which will be carried out by our volunteers over the next few weeks. Don't forget the museum, park and gardens are open as usual during the work - pop in and explore!

You may have noticed that work on the lower lake has slowed down over the last few weeks, this is due to the dry weather. The brook which fills the lakes is running very low. Moving water is needed to keep oxygen levels high and disturbing the water with machinery in these conditions could harm our wildlife and fish. While we wait for more rainfall, our contractors Ebsford Environmental are focusing on planting and other work on the upper lakes until the brook flow is back to normal.

Artists Karen Thompson and Mim Robson will be joining forces to lead a community art project and creating a temporary installation in the grounds of Cannon Hall. Using clay and natural materials the artwork, inspired by the De Morgan collection in Cannon Hall, will grow over the course of the day and culminate in truly unique artwork for Cannon Hall.
Join the artists at any point between 11am – 3pm to help create this wonderful artwork. On arrival meet at the Museum to find out where the artists are working in the park.

User

Visited for the first time with my family and loved every minute. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Great place full of historical facts

User

Took my 8 yr old daughter to cannon hall for the 3rd time and it just gets better every time. Also we watched a lamb being born which was so nice for me and my daughter to witness. As always we had Sunday lunch in the White Bull Resteraunt which again was excellent. My daughter Frankie loves this place so keep up the good work. Happy father and daughter.

My husband and I treat our Daughter our Granddaughter and Great Granddaughter to a day at Cannon Hall and Farm.

We were lucky enough to have a special offer into the farm. Which cost us just under £20 for 4 adults.

We took the baby into the soft play area where there were just 2 things suitable for a 4 month old. The meals served in there looked lovely . We just bought drinks.

My favourite event that day was the sheep racing.

We called into the farm shop and bought some good quality meat 3 packs for £10.

We had to cut our visit short as my husband was not well.

He wanted to see the museum, so we will return.

We can recommend it as a fantastic family day out.

User

Lovely place to visit, did enjoy a coffee and bought a few goodies in the Farm shop.

User

Loved our family visit here today. A walk around the gardens and walled garden. Then the museum. A Yorkshire gem. Dog friendly too.

User

Love cannon hall and the grounds surrounding it. Been visiting here for over 35 years. I came here with family and now I take my children. They love it, they love exploring the grounds and know their way around themselves now. Fab place for a nice walk, something to eat and also a cheeky drink or 2. Have great events here too. If you haven't been check it out. Highly recommended 🖒🖒

User

I've actually been here 3 times. Twice with my children as part of an educational trip with school and last year with my parents in law. We were extremely delighted with the fact that they had an exhibition of the period costumes worn in Downton Abbey TV show as well as some of the props used in the show. I had not previously visited the galleries upstairs which my in laws found of particular interest. We spent almost 4 hours there and it flew by! Such a beautiful place with the gardens and landscape.. It was free on the day we visited thanks to the exhibition but we made a donation as we had expected to pay. Well done to all involved with the upkeep.. It's a beautiful place to visit

User

Had a wonderful day in the sunshine yesterday. Great place to walk with our dogs . Plenty of watering holes for the dogs. Food on offer - good choice and reasonable prices.

User

Can’t fault Cannon Hall and Museum at all. We took my two boys aged 2 & 4. We had a walk round the park and gardens which are kept lovely and clean, had lunch at the farm shop cafe, then made clay fairies at the museum which was an excellent activity. We all had a fantastic day, thank you!

User

Attended this site of Intrest late afternoon upon a Sunday.

And found the customer service lay out of the attractions along with the general ease of usability outstanding.

Was abile to view amazing paintings two of which was true gems.

Gardens from a forgot time in contrast the farm , play area , reptile house , refectory.

Etc etc leads me to highly recomend the site of intrest to all !!

Keep the good work up !

User

Always love visiting Cannon Hall - lots to see & do & dog friendly - looking forward to the new Dog Cabin opening soon. Enjoyed the Ceramic Exhibition there in the Hall at the moment.

User

Always a fantastic day out, made even better with the addition of the dog cafe!

User

There was enough for my 2yr 10month old son to see and to do within the farm. Like the point that there are different play areas as well and enough animals so he didn't get bored.

Even went around the manor house but didn't go into the museum due to didn't know where it was. Gardens looks beautiful.

Am going to go again. Nice day out

User

The place it's self was lovely but we went for a wand making day that on the advert said it was at fair grotto in fairy land. When we got there it was just a table in a room at the museum with instructions to tell you how to do it. I was disappointed in that way but it was a nice place x

User

Love, love Cannon Hall - the beautiful gardens, cafe , house/museum and walks. I have been going 34 years since my children were young and now meet my daughter and granddaughter there. Extremely well looked after open space. But, I was very disappointed with the cost of the entry to the farm @ £11.95 per person and nearly the same price for over 2's! On that note we didnt visit the farm. Would have given 5* if that price was a lot less.

User

This place was recommended to us, farm area seemed very busy and lively, we were hoping to see some landscaped gardens with colourful flower displays but we couldn't find any. Huge parkland was lovely but the small fruit and walled gardens seemed unmaintained and in need of some tlc. The museum was free and nice to walk around. Would go again to check out the restoration work mentioned below possibly. Shops there were lovely.

User

Lovely place to visit. The only thing that has put me off giving it 5* is the fact dogs are aloud off their leads. Not everybody are dog lovers. My 8 year old son is petrified of them and yesterday we had 3 middle aged people with 3 dogs off their lead running at us and not one of them apologised or said the dogs wouldn't hurt us!
