I'll tell you what makes me mad! THE LECTURE There's a bit of a 'thing' going on with some dog professionals which I come accross on advertising and social media sometimes that I really don't like. It's the sort of post where you get the Lecture. The lecture on what you're probably doing wrong or the lecture on how much time, money and sacrifice they've made acquiring their knowledge. I find it a bit crass. ... I know they're trying to illustrate the hours of dedication and cash that they've put into learning their craft and I think, some see it as pre-empting what they may find awkward in terms of money conversations. But here's the thing. I would think that you as punters would expect a Professional to have made a substanial time and financial investment in getting to a point where this is your living? Those things should be evident on your website (CV section) and in your testimonials and your prelimanary conversations. Anyone worth working with will do their research before they pick a professional. Likewise the lecture. In the form of a post listing things that YOU as a Pet Dog Owner are doing wrong. Shesh way to beat you over the head when you might be really struggling with something, feeling a bit crap about it and looking for help. It's really not helpful is it? It's a kind of virtue signalling that's a little bit obnoxious. Anyhoo, I for one am bored with it. Yawn, And I'm curious, have you come across this sort of post, statement, blog or infographic? How did it make YOU feel?

This is one of my favourite quotes of all time. It makes me go 'Yes!', and makes me sound like Al Pachino in that awful film Scent of Woman 'Ooo HHHAAA' (look it up you'll see what I mean). Seriously read it! It's ridiculous and silly and contratictory and typically Ali. It's boastful and grand and very, very, very beautiful and can be true. I love it because this is exactly what I hear when I meet some of you lovely peeps who say that word... Impossible. ''It's just impossible to make him listen'', ''she's just impossible to train'', it's just impossible for them calm down when......'' It's such a joy and privledge to be a part of us changing impossible to possible. And it is us, it's not me, or you or your dog it's all of us. Impossible is Nothing. Oooo HHHHAAAAA!

What's in a name? I thought I'd share with you how I chose my business name. It's sort of a play on words..... or an associative word Canny/Canine. But also I chose it becuase I like it's meaning. It means, wise, sage and clear headed. It also means to be astute and being able apply common sense as well as knowledge. Hopefully my practice, methods and communication lives up to the name.... I may not always acheive all of those aims all of the time, but my name is a reminder to me always to try and bring what's important to the fore and distill that in ways that make the most sense. It doesn't describe everything I offer or am in the business. Hopefully I'm also, approachable, kind and sometimes funny too. But I still quite like it.

OK this is one JUST for the doggos. But you may ask your hooman to help with the typing. Would you rather....? A. Pick up some random leftover takeaway in the street B. Do some energertic digging in the flower beds C. Chase birds D. Growl at next doors cat... E. None of the above (in which case do tell what you would rather, we're dying to know)

Not just about the Scooby Snacks! There can be lots of confusion about rewards based training. Assumptions that it always means using food, and that you'll have to fire treats into your dog forever more with the same frequency of when you're teaching something new. Not so. Rewards can be all sorts of things that your dog enjoys. When, how and why access to any reward (including food) occurs are a conversation you and your dog have all the time. Not just in training sessions, and not just as an exchange - of you do this and I'll give you that. Rewards come in all sorts of forms and not just for your dog, it's a two way street, a conversation, a relationship.

Have you got a dog to do list? Things you want to train, problems you want to solve, things you wish you knew? Keep putting them off? I've been there too and I meet people often who've put things off in the hopes they'll iron them selves out. Doesn't really work like that. Some issues change or lesson over time due to maturity or adjustments you make, but others,....... not so much. I'm always here if you want advice, help or just to vent.
