About Cantabile Choir
Cantabile is a mixed-voice choir based in South Derbyshire, we meet on Tuesday evenings in term time at The William Allitt School, Newhall, DE11 0TL.
Cantabile Choir Description
Cantabile was established fifteen years ago, and there are currently thirty-two members who meet on Tuesday evenings in term time (September - June). Rehearsals are held at The William Allitt School, Newhall, Swadlincote DE11 0TL, 7-30pm - 9-30pm (with a break for drinks! ).
The choir has a varied repertoire ranging from the standard choral classics through to lighter, close-harmony pieces. From time-to-time the choir shares the concert platform with professional guest soloists or instrumental ensembles.
Cantabile is directed by Philip King, former local authority Adviser with responsibility for the Derbyshire City & County Music Partnership, and past chairman of the Association of British Choral Directors (Midland Region). He also directed the South Derbyshire Children's Chorale and the Derbyshire County Youth Chorale.
There are no formal auditions for the choir, but potential new members are invited to take part in two rehearsals, sitting alongside one of our members. During this period, we will be able to ascertain the extent to which your voice blends with the rest, and also what contribution you are able to make to the whole. It also gives a new singer the opportunity to decide if this is really something they want to do! All this takes place in a supportive way.
Our choir is a very friendly organisation - with opportunities for social activities as well as for performances. Special dates on our calendar are the annual dinner (and cabaret) at the Branston Golf & Country Club, and the Summer Buffet Party.
Cantabile is closely associated with the South Derbyshire Music Centre which is also based at the school.

Tonight’s practice is cancelled due to adverse weather
Choral music and brass music for Christmas sung by Cantabile and Youth Choir, with Seale Brass Quintet at St George's Church, Ticknall.
The afternoon concert will last about 1¼ hours; mulled wine and mince pies will be served afterwards.

Last night’s Amore concert at Twycross House school was exceptional. A wonderful atmosphere with a superb programme of music was very well received by the audience. Special thanks to Steve and Rocky Assinder for the use of the beautiful new theatre which is a wonderful addition to the school. We look forward to going back in the future. After the Easter break we will begin preparations for our concert in May with the South Derbyshire Music Centre Youth Choir. Happy Easter to you all

We all had a wonderful time at our annual post-Christmas party last night with good food, excellent company and a set of cabaret performances worthy of some sort of awards! Back to normal rehearsals on Tuesday this week as we start the preparations for our Spring concerts 🎶
