Capricorn Security was formed in 1993 and offers first class security services to the TV and Film making industries. As one of the most established security companies in Manchester we work with a variety of production companies – both big and small – and have long established working relationships with ITV, BBC, Red Production Company, Company Pictures, Shed Productions, Lime Pictures, Hat Trick, Shine, Tightrope Pictures and many others.
We specialize in the security guarding of studios, both permanent and temporary, as well as location security covering the north west region. We also offer close protection services to the media industry.
We pride ourselves on our service and company history and have worked on a variety of TV productions such as Shameless, Waterloo Road and Wayne Rooney Street Striker. We have also worked with Coronation Street for the past decade.
Renowned for our professionalism, we have been the first port of call for the film industry when on location in the North West, and have worked exclusively on the units of Alfie, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Captain America, Iron Lady, Woman In Black, Looking for Eric, Bronson and The Damned Utd.

That is Sunday night sorted, tune into BBC One at 9pm to see the fantastic #SuranneJones in new period drama Gentleman Jack. Written by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valleys), it explores the remarkable real-life events of the most formidable women of the 19th century, Anne Lister. Gentleman Jack tells the story of a woman who charmed her way into high society and planned – much to the horror of her neighbours – to marry a woman. This was a great one to be a part of and Capricorn Security really enjoyed providing the onset security for the filming that all took place in Yorkshire.

Tonight, sees the second of the three new dramas we have worked on airing this week. #TheVirtues, a four-part drama starts tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm. The Virtues reunites the #Bafta winning mastermind behind #ThisisEngland, #ShaneMeadows, with the man of the moment acclaimed actor #StephenGraham (Line of Duty, This is England). Described as a ‘poetic masterpiece’ this heart-breaking drama is follows Joseph (Graham) who is forced to confront his harrowing past. Shane Meadow...s has openly spoken about how this story is inspired by horrific events that happened in his own past. Although the series is mainly set in Ireland it was almost all filmed in South Yorkshire. Warp Films, the production company behind The Virtues and based in Sheffield themselves, have a long running relationship with the region and always deliver visionary films and television dramas. This is an exciting week for Capricorn Security with the release of three new TV dramas we had the pleasure of working on. Years and Years (BBC), The Virtues (Channel 4) and Gentleman Jack (BBC), all very different, however, all equally as good. Tonight, sees the start of #YearsandYears on BBC One at 9pm. A six-part drama made by our fellow Mancunians RED Production (Happy Valleys, Lost in Tango, Butterfly) and written by award-winning Russell T Davies (Queer as Folk, Cucumb...er). Starring Dame Emma Thompson, Russell Tovey and Jessica Hynes to name a few of an impressive cast, “Years and Years is an epic saga that takes an ordinary family and catapults them through the next 15 years. As the sun seems to have gone into hiding for this bank holiday weekend, we will be heading to the cinema to see the new release #Tolkien. Starring home grown #NicholasHoult and the beautiful #LilyCollins. Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the fellowship apart. All these experiences... would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels ‘The Hobbit’ & ‘The Lord of the Rings’. Capricorn security enjoyed providing the security for all the filming that took place in Cheshire and Manchester. It is great to watch the region become such a popular location for films recently. There is no doubt that this is due to the mixture of modern and period architecture the region offers as well as picturesque and industrial landscape we are also fortunate enough to have within a short distance of the city centre. Be sure to look out for some of Manchester City Centre’s famous buildings in this film. We enjoyed a visit from our local MP last week, take a look.
Capricorn Security welcomed a visit to our head office from #LucyPowellMP Labour and Co-operative MP for Manchester Central on Friday. Born and raised in #Manchester it is apparent that local issues are at the forefront of Lucy’s policies. Lucy has been our local MP since winning her seat in 2012 and in that time has seen huge regeneration of many areas within her constituency, including Newton Heath were our head office is based. Newton Heath is not only where our office i...s based but also where the masterminds behind Capricorn Security were born and raised and still where many of our staff live, so it is understandable that it holds a special place in our Capricorn family’s heart. During Lucy’s visit she met with our MD Billy Robinson who showed Lucy around our newly renovated offices and introduced her to our head office team. Lucy expressed her excitement in our investment and regeneration of our offices which had stood empty since Natwest moved their business out a couple of years before. Billy explained how breathing new life into the space has resulted in excellent commercial value for our brand as well as receiving nothing but positive feedback from the local community.
