NOT A GOODBYE
As some of you may know, I've been offered a very exciting opportunity in Hexham. Not horses related but exciting nontheless β I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of my fabulous clients - I'm super proud of every single one of you. I am by no means 'gone' just a little less there βΊοΈ I'll still be about during weekends and bank holidays to give any support and guidance that you may need. I'm also just a phone call or message away if you ...need exercise ideas, a bit of advice or just general horse gossip π
Feeling super stoked for the remaining part of this year, and I love to hear how you are all doing with your favourite 4 legged friends. So don't be strangers πππ΄ππππ¦

DRESSAGE NOT STRESSAGE π
Over the past month, we have really knuckled down and put a ton of time and effort in the development of this fiery, always has an opinion, must be asked and not told, mare!
Although she questions absolutely everything that is asked of her, she learns very quickly and can be a pleasure during flat work. ... And today, all the time and effort has begun to show that it was absolutely ALL worth it!
These two have clicked and with that were PLACED in BOTH tests this morning ππππ

CAPRIOLE
When I first joined the King's Troop RHA, I worked in the best sub section at the time- B Sub. One of my favourites horses in the sub section was Capriole. She was absolute agony on parades as she would constantly jog when everyone else was striding along in a relaxed walk! Have you ever felt like you were riding a horse with 6 legs? Well that was how it felt riding her π Hence my heels being dug to the ground! ... But she had the sweetest temperament (anyone who owns a mare will tell you that it's rare #firebreathingdragon). I had the privilege to compete on her, which certainly taught me a lot as a new gunner.
The pictures below are of Capriole and I with members of B Sub detachment, carrying out a 'Right Wheel' during a parade to celebrate 60 years since the King's Troop were formed in 1946. And because I was furthest out, Capriole and I had to go flat out to keep the dressing with the inside man π
We made it front and centre onto a commissioned painting that hung in the Senior's Mess in St. John's Wood Barracks, London.
Capriole ~ A movement performed in classical riding, in which the horse leaps from the ground and kicks out with its hind legs.
She sadly was involved in an accident in gun team that led to her having to be PTS. She was just in front of me at the time π’ But she was doing what she loved throughout and certainly ended it all on a high.
And that, my friends, is where the name Capriole Equitation was inspired from xx

What a super little pair these two make!
And yes, Charlotte was on the correct diagonal π
GREEN BEAN
At the start of the session, Suzie showed just how green she was - getting deep into the fences and then ballooning over the top of them π Having a parachute would have been a better option than a body protector at that point π
As she progressed, she began to settle into a much better rhythm, didn't put in any extra strides and jumped rounded. Even whilst winnying for her friends all the way through, and in the driving rain ππ
A very educational day for Suzie yesterday! At first she refused to get her feet wet and certainly made sure everyone was aware that she wasn't happy π
The end result - a horse that has doubled in confidence already!
Finishing a super day both cold and wet, but having achieved a huge amount π
THE BIG OUTDOORS
Getting Darcy used to working outside π Her home is a very busy yard with lots of movement of horses, people and vehicles. Exposing her to all of this is teaching her discipline as well as the confidence for both her and her mum to use the warm-up arena in preparation for winning their dressage tests ππ
I π it when they're abit cheeky!
Schooling with a view π And chats with our spectators.

WE WERE ALL LITTLE ONCE
Happening across old photos always makes me feel nostalgic βΊ Here's a few of me just a few years ago! π I was quite possibly the smallest there but riding an ex race horse, Jungle Boy. He was so big that I looked like a tiny flea on his back - even my stirrup leathers had to be twisted around the irons a few times so they were short enough π At pony camp, I'd have to ask a 'tall person' to help me tack up π I'd also like to proudly point out that I wo...n the sack race π
SHARE YOUR NOSTALGIC RIDING MEMORIES, I'd love to see them π

Consistent progress week in, week out for these two ππ
Perfect weather for a day packed full of instructing and schooling. βοΈ
Charlotte and her pony Lucy had an excellent session over raised trotting poles - perfect exercise to develop greater engagement, strength, balance and regularity of stride. Lucy is certainly a 'thinker' and was very specific with her footfall, backed up by Charlotte keeping her leg on throughout to encourage impulsion through the grid. Well done!
