Cardboard Cameras Description

We met with a shared excitement about the possibilities that learning environments can provide, with a particular interest in art, movement and object manipulation.

We soon began to see the potential of linking our particular disciplines and experiences, and soon set our sights on animation, with its many related processes.

It has always been important to us to put ideas into practice and to develop through the experience of running workshops; so where planning and sharing ideas is a central part of our group, we have tried to open this out to the community wherever possible. Early on, we were lucky enough to form part of the education at a gallery in Peckham, and it was here that we were first able to gather a group of local children and young people and to start doing just that.

We have now been working for over two years, developing an array of workshop models and exploring many avenues within the community. Collectively we have worked in numerous schools and colleges, and various festivals and events. Commencing our program in December of 2010, we are very excited about what the future holds.

Yesterday this film premiered at the British Museum as part of the Red Cross' Refugee week. Celebrating and welcoming refugees in the UK.
We feel so lucky and privileged to have worked with such kind, respectful and supportive groups of young people. And very proud of their hard work. The film is fabulous.

For the past few months we have been working on an animated film with young asylum-seekers and this weekend is the screening of the film at the British Museum. Come along and enjoy meeting the young people and learning some animation skills from them, watch their film and find out from them about the collection at the museum. It runs all day from 11am - 3pm and is a free event. Would be great to see you there. http://www.britishmuseum.org/…/events_c a…/event_detail.aspx…

A quick update about our animation project with young asylum-seekers that's going on at the moment.
It's off to a really great start and we've had some more venues confirmed for screenings during Refugee Week. The young people are giving it their all, and have already come up with some great ideas for the start of animating next week.
We really hope they will be able to come and introduce their work and experience being film-makers with an audience.
... We will be updating this page with dates and venues for seeing the films, so watch this space. Here's a clip that we've been showing them as inspiration for their film. https://vimeo.com/18344053

I had a great time this evening meeting some of the young people that we will be doing the project with. The young people were all so warm and friendly, and it was amazing to see what the Red Cross volunteers do to create a safe and welcoming space for them to come to.
