A nice Train Station in a very central location and super friendly and helpful staff.
Had a day trip from Hellifield to Carlisle yesterday. Am disabled and can only stand for 5-7 minutes at most. When I arrived at Platform 6 about 15 minutes before departure time to board the train for my return journey the driver was there but the doors were closed. Looked for a seat but there were none on the platform. I managed to walk up the platform where there was a chair and took it.
It is a disgrace that there is no seating on a busy platform for use of disabled passengers. All the other stations on the route (even Ribblehead an unmanned halt) were well equipped with benches. Why not Carlisle platform 6 where there was ample space to place them.
Well laid out and really historic railway station. Good facilities for snacks and beverages. Car parking is a bit of a problem.
Update. The station is undergoing a major refurbishment having a new roof. There is currently a major disruption scaffolding everywhere but it will look good when it's finished. The staff are absolutely amazing coping with this and providing all the information that you need
Great station serving the city and local area. Very impressive.
Currently run by Virgin Trains.
Friendly staff and good facilities.
Carlisle Station is in the heart of the city centre. It has friendly and helpful staff, plenty of passenger trains from different companies with good connections to the main cities of London, Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester. Whilst you're waiting around there's refreshments and shops to keep you going. The architecture of the station is fantastic. For trainspotters, railtours and freight trains may turn up. Best to check before making a visit!
Easy to get around and helpful staff
Train station is still under construction and the platforms are exposed. Other than that it is a pleasant experience
The station has been undergoing repairs for ages, there's an extremely overpriced WHSmiths near the entrance. Most of the platforms are exposed so bring gloves and an umbrella because in Cumbria it is cold and windy all the time. The announcements used to be impossible to understand but thy have updated the speakers or the lady that announces is very good. The vending machines only accept coins.
