Carlisle Futsal Club Description

Futsal is widely played across the world, and is the small sided football format that is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA. The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game.

Futsal began in Uruguay and Brazil where the large crowded cities and a shortage of playing pitches forced a football mad populace to play small sided football and in 1936 the first rules emerged. Futsal was the name chosen by FIFA, which is simply a combination of the Spanish words for ‘hall’ (Sala) and ‘football’ (Futbol): hence ‘Futsal’.

Many of the top world class footballers played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development; players of the calibre of Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Lionel Messi to name but a few of the South American legends who all played and enjoyed Futsal.

But Futsal has not just helped produce South American football stars. On the European stage Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Xavi and Fabregas, amongst many others, have played Futsal to develop their skills.

Pele, World Cup Winner: 1958, 1962 & 1970
"Futsal was important in helping to develop my ball control, quick thinking, passing… also for dribbling, balance, concentration…Futsal was very, very important, no doubt. "

Robinho, Brazil
"I played Futsal for many years and it helped me to become the player I am today. There you don't have time to think, you are always tightly marked and you develop a sense for performing in small spaces. "

U9s: Tournament day in the New Balance Easter Cup for the boys.
We've been working on our individual defensive principals in recent weeks so that was the focus for the day. Lots of pressing and covering on display. Most of the goals were conceded from set plays which are always difficult to stop at this age but a superb effort from the boys winning two and losing two close games.
What a talented bunch.
... Thanks to the parents once again for the superb support and travelling the country for us once again.

U10s: Tournament day today as we travelled down to Manchester for the New Balance Easter Cup. The lads played some fantastic stuff today and were very unfortunate not to reach the final. Frustrating for the guys as their play today deserved better but plenty of positives for us to work on in the weeks to come. Huge mention again to our fantastic parents for travelling the country again. You are the best, and very much appreciated by myself and the boys. 👏🏻

More working on individual defence tonight before applying it in a game scenario. Nice work boys!

User

U10s: Continued our theme tonight brushing up on some technical work. Boys did a variety of drills working on keeping your head high in possession, dribbling at pace with both feet, using different parts of the foot for ball control and working in tight spaces. Quality stuff these guys are producing and all working very hard to constantly improve their game, individually and as a team. Great stuff 👏🏻

U9: Our first session in our new training slot of 7-8pm at Cumbria Uni last night. The boys worked on pressing as part of a man marking system in some 3v3 work and Mike put the goalkeepers through their paces with some technical work. Fantastic focus all through the session.
Well done boys!

U10s: Great stuff tonight from the lads, tonight we had great fun with a technical session. Session consisted of various mini drills working on ball control, quick feet, quick thinking, passing quality and directional first touch. Mike doing a great job also putting the keepers through their paces working on blocks. Before ending with a very high quality match to close the session. Boys put in fantastic hardwork and effort while having a good laugh along the way with plenty of smiles! (Very important). Well done all 👍🏻👏🏻

Excellent club, my two boys love their sessions and have made some great friends. For the small ones the sessions are made fun and interesting with games and activities while the older kids are given the chance to get involved in team tactics and decisions.
