What a wonderful experience in beautiful surroundings. The afternoon tea was gorgeous - so fresh and tasty. Our waitress was a delight, she was so friendly and, although very busy, treated us like we were the only people she was looking after. The Carriages themselves are just amazing and the 'station' was incredible. Thank you all so much. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Went to carriages yesterday for 70th birthday tea, what an amazing place. The attention to detail is fabulous. The carriages have been renovated to a really high standard. The food was delicious and waitresses were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be coming back for high tea next time. Thank you

PS we have nothing like this in Oxford and it would be great to see one there

We heard about Carriages several months ago and coming through Fenstanton thought we would take look with a view making a visit in future we were surprised to find a station house, 3 carriages, signal box etc all immaculate. We were welcomed for a cream tea and enjoyed a lovely tea in a comfy formal carriage with proper napkins and own branded crockery and accompanied with background sound effects and gentle movement simulating a journey. There was a large variety of drinks on offer and our scones, cream and jam were lovely. Others having the full afternoon tea seemed to have a wonderful selection of sandwiches and cakes in front of them. With the carriage we had, another full open dining carriage and another with first class compartments they seem well set up to welcome events, special occasions or an intimate treat. Prices were very reasonable considering the service and surrounding and didn't cost much more than it would have done at a normal cafe. If the chance arises, don't hesitate to pay them a visit.

Took my mum and my sister to this little gem mid week for Afternoon Tea. We were very warmly welcomed and escorted to our carriage. The attention to detail is amazing. Congratulations to the creators who have come up with a unique and special place and idea. The food was delicious and doggy bags provided! We all loved it and really recommend to all ages. Definitely get your tea booked in asap! :-)

This was given to us as a gift and we turned up unaware that it was set in carriages on a station. Table was laid out nicely with very comfortable chairs!!

The whole experience was superb, our waitress was lovely and very efficient and the food was excellent. We will definitely be back to try the the savoury afternoon tea.

If you like afternoon teas and want to try something a bit different and like to go back in time, this is for you.

I would highly recommend.

Thank you a wonderful afternoon. A super way to celebrate my mum's birthday. The afternoon tea was delicious and so lovely to go somewhere that caters for gluten free needs. The setting is amazing with great attention to detail!

I will definitely be recommending you to friends and I can't wait to go again.

My mum and I came for afternoon tea and we cannot fault it! We've been for around 10 afternoon teas in various places between us and this is definitely one of the best. The atmosphere, service and food were fantastic. Every little detail was thought of. Such a lovely place and the seats were so comfortable!!!! We will definitely be back.

I can see that this will become my go-to place when lunching out. Everything is exquisite; from the quality of the food to the outstanding hospitality. The star of the show, though, is the beautiful setting and loving refurbishment of the carriages. Every detail is perfect - even coal tar soap in the WC. Would highly recommend to friends.

I booked an afternoon tea for my in laws as a present for their anniversary and her brithday. Without being there myself, I can tell how much my in laws enjoyed their afternoon their. I don't seem to hear the end of the story! They absolutely loveed it there! In their words... everyone was so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was absolutely lovely. The food sandwiches and cakes were lovely. They even got a complimentary cake to celebrate!! Thank you so much for making their day so memorable!!

Had a wonderful afternoon tea for my mums 60th birthday. There was literally not a single thing I could fault. The whole experience from the detail that had gone in to the station & carriages to the service and food was exceptional! If I could give more than 5* I would. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Four of us visited on the 6th April & we all loved it from the moment we stepped into the booking hall.we had the traditional afternoon tea in the Louis carriage which was very comfortable the food was delicious & the staff are all lovely, after tea we took a look around the platform & checked out the other carriages & as the Daughter of a former railway signalman I couldn't resist a look through the window of the signal box, such a lovely setting & the attention to detail is second to none, we will definitely be returning

Carriages is a beautiful place to bring friends for afternoon tea or cream teas, especially if they have a love of steam trains. I visited Carriages earlier this week to celebrate my friend's 70th birthday. We had a private compartment for 4 people, with individual seats upholstered in period fabrics which were VERY comfortable. Sparkling, crisp white table cloths and period style tablewear, a vase of flowers, all in keeping with this stylish step-back-in-time. We had ordered afternoon tea and enjoyed a bottle of Prossecco to accompany it. The food was delicious; a small selection of sandwiches and LOTS of cakes! The staff were lovely and very attentive, making sure that we had enough tea and coffee etc. The whole experience was wonderful! The private compartment was peaceful, relaxing, it allowed us to chat without lots of background noise, just the gentle sound effects of steam from the 'steam engine' :-) I know that I will be returning soon.

User

Booked a party of 4 for a birthday treat and went for the private compartment with the pullman seats and it's well worth it. As previously mentioned the attention to detail is to be commended. From the quiet background sound of the train travelling on the tracks to the station setting and even the steam coming down the side of the wagons all added to a most enjoyable and thoroughly different experience. All the staff are polite and attentive and the afternoon tea was delicious. We plan to return! :-)

User

What a wonderful setting! So much superb attention to detail and so nearly a 5 star experience. My mother, daughter and I had afternoon tea in the Louis carriage. The table was beautifully set and the armchairs extremely comfortable. The food, when it came, was delicious. Our booking was for 3.15 but we didn't eat until 4.30, unfortunate as we were hungry, having saved ourselves for the event . The carriage was cold and although we mentioned it failed to warm up. The staff were extremely polite but were unable to be as attentive as they would have liked because they were so busy. My mother and I opted for a glass of champagne while we waited, which, while delicious, a little overpriced at £10.00 for a small glass. My daughter had tea, which was cold when the food arrived. The staff then disappeared for quite some time, presumably to serve in other carriages,so we could not get more hot water for the tea or ask for the missing cream and jam from my mothers food selection. Please do not be put off by this, it was a wonderful experience and I am sure the issues are merely organisational and hopefully teething problems. We still had a wonderful time and will certainly return and have a good look round when it is not raining so heavily

Stunning venue . Beautifully restored and excellent comfortable surroundings .

The service was nice but not fabulous . We had to ask for lemon curd for our scones . We had to ask for extra hot water to top the teapot up . The cappachino was Luke warm ,and we were never asked if we wanted anything else .

This is a stunning ,unique place . Don't let sloppy service let it down !!!!

User

Beautifully restored carriages and great concept, although I think they are too popular for their own good. The service was lacklustre and I would have expected the staff to be dressed the same or at least smart. They were not.

Nice selection of cakes and lovely scones. Sandwiches were hit and miss unfortunately as there were 3 of us and only 1s and 2s we couldn't have a full selection.

Take less bookings and work on the service.
