We are an independent Registered Charity (Charity No. 1071774) who offer information, advice and services to carers in South Tyneside.

What is CAST?

We offer information, advice and services to carers.

This includes a Befriending Service, Advocacy Service, respite opportunities, access to the Carers Support Fund, access to the Carers Emergency Support scheme Male Carers Group, Parent Carers Group, training opportunities, signposting to other organisations, and much more.

Our services provide all carers with the opportunity to meet other carers in similar situations. Often lifelong supportive friendships are forged this way.

We are an independent Registered Charity and our service is confidential, so we will not pass any of your details onto to other services, including statutory services, without your permission. The only exception to this rule is if we feel there is a child or adult in danger, in which case we would be legally obliged to report under various Safeguarding procedures and legislation.

How to access our services

Anyone who is a carer can self-refer to CAST. We welcome referrals from professionals too.

Once a referral is made, an appointment will be made with the carer or young carer in question and our staff will either visit you in your home or arrange to meet you somewhere suitable for you.

At that meeting we will take details about you and your situation and provide an individual service tailored to your own individual needs.

Our services are free of charge and not obligatory.
