About Castleton Mill

Castleton Mill is Leeds’ newest space for the creative, digital, cultural and arts industries.

Castleton Mill Description

A Grade II listed former textile mill, Castleton Mill has been repurposed as a collection of high quality and affordable creative work spaces and studios.

In addition to this, Castleton Mill now offers an inspiring co-working space designed for creative freelancers, start-ups and small businesses, as well as access to two large-scale industrial spaces that can be used for events, exhibitions, shoots and other creative projects.

Each of the individually designed work spaces and studios provides an inspiring setting. The spaces are large, open and bright and blend traditional features with modern infrastructure and style. Many of the mill’s original features have been retained – think vaulted ceilings, original wooden beams, large windows and Yorkshire stone floors.

First and foremost, Castleton Mill is about its people and being a resident means becoming a part of a genuinely creative community, where ideas will flourish and business connections thrive through collaboration.

———–

Built in 1836, Castleton Mill was designed for steam powered flax spinning, in the 1850s a weaving shed was added for wool and linen manufacture. It is one of three remaining mills of its type in the UK.

Throughout the renovation of the mill, our key aim was to restore and enhance the original features, as well as promote the cultural significance of the building – both past and present.
