Cawley Landscapes

Something a little different to what I usually do. This garden is in Upton Mill & had really unusual level changes, certainly not something you see everyday. Using straight lines and simple design I managed to make the middle level of the garden feel more like a room in the house. I used painted grey battons to disguise the big red wall and also carefully hidden the electrics for the lighting. I used Brazilian black slate to off set the grey block and rendered walls. Then s...oftened the area using granite cobbles, AstroTurf and planting in the raised borders. Not forgetting the garden sails which enclose the area. The seats are made to look like they are floating, I used cedar joists to construct these which are supported on carefully hidden steel bars and ledges. At the top of the garden near the house I added in some raised beds with a seat inbetween to tie in with the middle level. The bottom level I laid to Artificial grass for the dogs. I would very much like to introduce the latest addition to my family. As many of you know we have been expecting this little man and on Friday 21.09.2018 at 4.55pm Alex Benjamin Cawley decided to make an appearance weighing a healthy 9lbs 2.5oz! My wife was amazing and I’m very blessed to have a third son. Cawley Landscapes is officially on dad duties for the week! Another knocked on the head today. Just awaiting on my electrician to do a final hook up. This job is on Booth lane, both the client and their grand child have mobility requirements and the brief was to make the most of the space. The specification was to make the top level of the garden easily accessible but not look as though it was designed around their needs. We excavated approximately 3-4ft more garden to make the overall patio larger. The paving selection is a Raj green sandstone in mixed sizes. Once the electrics are hooked up I will try to get an evening photo to show off the lighting in the sleeper fronts and up each set of steps.

Property in West Hunsbury.... second one on the street and just started the third one too. This property is a corner plot so the garden wraps around two sides of the house. We had 5man holes to deal with in this garden, two within the Astro, two in the patio and another in the border. I used curves on the paving to tie it in with one of the garden walls. I used a kandla grey sandstone in mixed sizes to give a modern look to the garden, bordered with a double width line of cobblesetts in the same colour. The Astro-turf is a 30mm pile from my usual supplier I-grass. The borders had been stripped out apart from the trees and then re-planted up and finished with Cotswold chippings. The perimeter wall had its soldier course of engineering bricks replaced as they were all blown. Tried my hand at a panoramic photo, let me know what you think.

Weekend project at my place. Tried my hand at a walled garden. At the front of my house was a big area of brick work that was asking me to do something with. I made up a timber frame to fit the pocketed felt, damp proof lined it so the wall stays dry. Some big wall fixings and 216 plants and two days later... let me know what you think. I may do these more often within my work if someone wants one. Just need to to mature now and it should look lovely.

Anyone awaiting quotes and communication from me... I can only apologise for the delay. It’s been abit of a bad time for the family and I really appreciate everyone’s patience at this time. We have been in and out of hospital a lot recently with my wife who is now 33weeks pregnant, so not long now. Seems to be one little scare after the other. Still Going strong and pushing through. Buckton fields new build estate near Boughton. Existing paving removed and extended to make more use of the evening sun. Used Raj green sandstone paving with the same colour cobblesetts as edging. Reused some of the existing paving for a shed base and future vegetable garden. Just need to keep watering the lawn now to bring it back to life. Small spotlights in the sleeper fronts for subtle evening lighting.

Finally got my own driveway done today. This would have gone quicker if we didn’t choose a difficult cobble to work with! These are mainly Sagar Black Sandstone cobblesetts. Laid in a herringbone pattern. Very difficult to keep this pattern going as all the cobbles are different sizes & thicknesses, so each block had to be laid and knocked into place individually. The pattern does tend to drift a little but only really noticeable when your looking for it. I put a separate Grey Sandstone cobblesett in as a border. Softened up with a small box hedge, hanging basket and standard potted tree. Still a few more bits out here we want to do before moving onto the back garden.

Simplified this pathway to the front of the house in Cogenhoe. Regular customers of mine who have really taken a liking to gardening recently. A lot of ground was removed on the front garden and replenished with new top soil and manure. We reduced the size of the bed on the left but increased the size of the bed on the right so they are ready to plant up. These cobbles were sourced and supplied by the customer who I believe bought through Stone Master. They are a processed concrete cobble which are moulder in about 4-5 sizes, these will full in colour slightly over time and not look so artificial.

Slight delay in getting quotes out, amending quotes and general communicating. My wife, 30 weeks pregnant, has been in hospital for yesterday and today. Things are looking better so should be home today. Been getting home and just want to crash so nothing getting done. Please bare with us, thanks guys.

Finished this tricky little one in the Upton estate. The was only 4 manhole covers to work with!! The other cut out is for access to the water meter. This was originally just barkchipped and planted up and full of weeds. I chose to use a combination of Raj green sandstone paving and cobblesetts. Reason being was to make it easier with the level changes. These new houses have a zero threshold on the doorways for wheelchair access, but I needed the rest of the paving at the correct height. To solve the issue I just installed to thick lines of cobblesetts, I have to say looks very effective. Now all is left is for the customer to plant it up which they have chosen to do themselves.

A little bit of Friday evening commitment. Arbour bought online through Forest Garden. Nice and sturdy.

Completed this mightily big fence today. Was constructed to hide a very ugly neighbouring block built shed. This beast is on average 3.10m tall. Had to go on step ladders to put the trellis on the top! Really nice to work in the shade for once 😅

Finished up this nice little garden in West Hunsbury for a really lovely couple. The weather has been really against me throughout the entire build. Rain, snow, ice, wind and more rain... I redesigned the entire garden and I completed pretty much all of it by myself. The paving selection is an autumn brown sandstone with Cotswold chippings on the borders. This garden was unlucky with a total of 5 manhole covers which have all now been discreetly disguised. 30mm pile Astro turf. An area for entertaining in the evenings with some nice focal lighting, inspired by a “conversation pit”. An area for growing vegetables and the green house and a large enough patio for a table and chairs. Evening lighting photos still to come. Would have been nice to have the sun out for these pictures! After having a stressful time with tradesman in the past we were nervous about getting someone in to do other work but the garden was in a real mess and needed to be sorted for our 2 year old. Alex was brilliant right from the start and put me at ease. He communicated well, was very hard working, professional, creative and very reasonable with his quote and did not charge anymore than he quoted. Alex also put right work that had been done badly by someone else which we were very grateful for. We wish we had got Alex in from the start but were glad we found him in the end!

He gave us back a beautiful garden with sleepers and a good quality artificial lawn, which we wanted as we have a dog and a young child. He also raised our flower beds and improved the bench which made the lawn more level for our son to play on safely. We are very happy with the finish and the quality of Alex's work. The day he finished my 2 year old and dog were running around the law so happy! Alex also finished in time for my sons birthday which we were very grateful for.

Alex and co worked really hard to make my overgrown 80ft garden into the start of my vegetable garden. Mini digger, massive skip and 25 tonne of gravel was barrowed in and he was never anything but cheerful and friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him as prices were very competitive too. He's returning to re turf for me in September.

After recommendations from friends, we're very glad that we contacted Alex to landscape our garden. From looking very uneven, very untidy, and very unloved, it has been transformed into a space that we will love spending time in and entertaining. The finish is even better than we had initially envisaged. Alex is very friendly, and ultra efficient. He takes his time to do things properly (and I know is very busy as he can rarely say no to new jobs!), but it is worth the wait in terms of the finished product.
