“Women are judged so much. Sometimes this pressure can bottle up and you just explode. We all need to accept ourselves as not perfect. We need to ask for a shoulder to cry on when we need to...”
As part of our Time to Change programme, Abena is training champions in Ghana to speak out about mental health. She’s experienced bipolar disorder and is supporting 25 individuals to raise awareness and change how their communities think about mental health.

Without support, children with disabilities in Nigeria cannot go to school. CBM's partner, the Elim Centre, in Nigeria is providing school fees, learning materials and transport to both primary and secondary schools, so that children with disabilities can access education and fulfil their potential.

Pictured: Harka, aged 84, was nearly blind before she was treated and operated on both eyes at CBM partner Biratnagar Hospital in Nepal. When our community team visited her to see how she is doing, they found a lively lady full of energy.

"I would have been dead by now” – Tsotsowani is one of the millions of people affected by the food crisis in Zimbabwe. Thanks to CBM supporters, she’s received a new wheelchair, goats and chickens and a plot in the community garden.

CBM has recently carried out research with local partners in Nigeria, which shows that high levels of depression and anxiety are common among people affected by Neglected Tropical Diseases.
#MentalHealth support is essential in the fight to #BeatNTDs and improve the quality of life for people living in the world’s poorest communities. Read more from our global mental health advisor Julian Eaton: https://www.cbmuk.org.uk/blog/ntds-and-me ntal-health/

Today is the first ever #WorldNTDDay
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of ancient diseases that threaten 1.6 billion people living in the poorest and most marginalized communities worldwide.
We must continue working together to #BeatNTDs for good, for all.

“We’ve built a strong partnership and share a passion for helping people with disabilities… We need this work to continue and double our efforts to achieve elimination of NTDs.”
As Chief Executive at HANDS, one of our partners in Nigeria, Chris Ogoshi has been at the forefront of tackling Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) such as blinding trachoma. For a Nigerian with a disability, finding enough to feed your family can often mean depending on other people’s generosity. Thanks to the goodwill of CBM supporters the ELIM Centre has been able to provide 40 elderly visually impaired people with enough yam seedlings and farm equipment to become self-sufficient.
We’ve also trained several people with disabilities to start their own businesses – like Blessing (below), now able to take up hairdressing.

Meet Nigerian Amena, who has lived with lymphatic filariasis (LF) for nearly 20 years. Caused by parasitic worms, LF attacks the lymphatic system. Her leg is heavy from the condition and sometimes a painful episode leaves Amena housebound for up to a month. Despite this, she does her best not let it stop her doing the housework.
Amena takes drugs once a year – doing this for five years should break the cycle of LF. Amena washes up to three times a day with soap; good hygiene is vital in managing her condition. Many with LF are unaware of this, so hygiene education is an important part of our NTD work. Find out more @ https://www.cbmuk.org.uk/blog/working-tog ether-for-change/ #BeatNTDs #WorldNTDDay

URGENT: Food Crisis in Zimbabwe
At CBM we know that when disasters strike, people with disabilities are often among the worst affected and the last to receive help.
We’re currently on the ground in Zimbabwe, getting life-saving aid to people like Ezekiel – but we need your help! Find out more @ https://www.cbmuk.org.uk/zimbabwe-food-em ergency/

You may never have heard of lymphatic filariasis (LF) but this cruel condition is a daily reality for over 120 million people worldwide. Microscopic worms live in the lymph system, causing this parasitic disease. LF is a major cause of disability and symptoms include swelling of limbs and internal damage.
On a recent trip to Nigeria, Kirsty Smith visited CBM projects tackling LF and met people living with the disease. In this blog, she details the people she met and the need to work together to combat the disease: https://www.cbmuk.org.uk/blog/working-tog ether-for-change/

Father we pray for those affected by extreme weather conditions across the world. We think particularly of those with disabilities who are too often left behind. Lord please bless the emergency response teams working to include people with disabilities in rescue efforts.
