Cecilia'S Hand-Spun Yarn Description
Cecilia is a hand-spinner, working mostly with the wool of a local breed of sheep in Cumbria, the Blue-faced Leicester, but also with other natural fibres, such as silk and the mohair from her own goats. She works with spinning wheel and spindle to create colourful and textured yarn, with a distinctive style inspired by the local landscape, and she writes a brief nature note to accompany each skein, describing its inspiration. The yarn can be used for weaving, knitting and crochet, as well as embroidery and darning, but is often sold as a decorative item in itself, to nestle in a handcrafted bowl, or to be worn as a necklace. Cecilia's husband, Graham, weaves the yarns into beautiful scarves.
