The warehouse is a disused RAF bunker that was built in 1952 as a bomb-proof defence facility and is mostly underground. It was built with one meter thick reinforced concrete walls that create a sheltered and constant environment, protecting and regulating the inside from vibration, humidity, sunlight and temperature fluctuations. This uncompromising military precision ensures that the inside of the bunker is unaffected by any kind of activity outside, and this presents ideal conditions for safe wine storage. The picturesque, coastal four acre site is situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of the surrounding area is owned by the National Trust. The surroundings are described as unspoilt and boast picturesque villages, with magnificent coastal scenery and stunning beaches. The location's proximity to Plymouth Harbour means transport to CellarMountain is quick and simple from France, Spain or Ireland, thus keeping carbon footprint low. By road, the site is only accessible via a private road, and it is also adjacent to an air strip which allows exclusivity for that special delivery. CellarMountain contains a floor space of 33, 00ft2 (3, 067m2) over 2 floors, and has the capacity to lay down 44, 604 cases of wines and spirits. The state of the art inventory systems that CellarMountain has in place ensure that stock is rigorously coded, controlled and every bottle is insured.
