Cemex River Wey Description

A picturesque, tricky but potentially very rewarding stretch of the Wey. Depths to 8ft with plenty of features to explore.

The main targets here are Chub which run to over 6lb & the occasional Barbel to over 13lb. The stretch also boasts some excellent silver fish sport with quality Roach & Dace abundant throughout. Back this up with specimen Perch to 2lb + , the odd Bream to 5lb + , Pike well into double figures plus the occasional Carp and you really have to admire this excellent mixed fishery.

Although the stretch is relatively short there are opportunities to use a wide variety of methods, all of which can be successful.

Throughout the early season good bags of Roach and Dace can be taken on simple trotting tactics, although they can still be caught during the Winter months this is the time that the Chub fishing really comes into it's own, ledgering tactics usually producing the larger specimens. The last few seasons have seen a paste and pellet approach be quite successful although more traditional baits such as breadflake and cheesepaste still account for a number of good fish. With more anglers targeting the Barbel we have seen catches improve with double figure fish now being caught every season. Pike can be caught using all usual tactics, lure fishing also producing good Perch and the occasional surprise Chub.

With increasing numbers of juvenile silver fish being seen the future of this delightful little fishery is looking good. . . . . .
