Iranian cinema’s prominence at international film festivals over the last three decades has raised interest and questions in equal measure. The success has been paradoxical on many levels, not least because the production of such a high volume of quality films has taken place under a strong ideological state that requires overcoming a myriad of religio-political restrictions.

YARSHATER LECTURE SERIES 2019 POSTPONED UNTIL MAY
It is with much regret that we find that Massumeh Farhad’s upcoming Yarshater lecture series has fallen victim to President Trump’s lockdown of government services in Washington, D.C. – the Smithsonian Institution and all its museums (one of the being the Smithsonian's Freer Sackler Galleries, of which Massumeh Farhad is Chief Curator) being government institutions. So, to this end, Freer Sackler curators, like most other US g...overnment employees have had bans imposed on their activities, which extraordinarily includes travelling abroad on lecture tours. We have been hanging on for as long as possible to see if there is any way around this predicament, or a sudden change of presidential mind, to no avail. We have, therefore, made the decision to postpone the series and have rebooked the Khalili Lecture Theatre for 16th, 17th 20th and 21st May 2019.
With many, many apologies.
