About Chaddesley Races

Keep up to date with lots of news and photos from Chaddesley Corbett, one of the UK's premier point-to-point racecourses

Chaddesley Races Description

The Harkaway Club Was founded in 1902 to promote Polo and Show Jumping. It was later changed to a Point-to-Point Club.

In 1908 the Committee of the Albrighton Hunt conceded to local support because of the size of their country and the difficulty of transport, to divide the pack and form the Albrighton Woodland Hunt. The Jockey Club - who then controlled Point-to-Point horse racing - would not allow a hunt to hold two meetings so up until 1956 a joint Point-to-Point was held for the two hunts.

To get over a technicality, a successful application was made to the Jockey Club by the committee of the Harkaway Club to hold a Point-to-Point at Tuck Hill, Enville, which continued up to the start of the 1914-18 War. In 1919, it was not possible to hold a Point-to-Point Meeting due to the shortage of both riders and horses. Racing recommenced in 1920.

In 1925 the meeting moved venue to Chaddesley Corbett and in 1928 His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, later the Duke of Windsor rode at the meeting, and fell at the Water Jump.

Since then the Club has continued to run a meeting at Chaddesley Corbett. The Club has had many Chairmen and six secretaries the most recent of which is: Mrs. Corinne Swarbrick.

The course has been chain harrowed and rolled since our last fixture, with all fences and bends moved out onto fresh ground. Watering will take place as needed to provide safe ground.
