About Chain Of Hope
Chain of Hope exists to provide children affected by life-threatening heart disease with the treatment to which they very often simply do not have access, by developing sustainable cardiac centres where they are most needed.
Chain Of Hope Description
Chain of Hope was established in 1995 under the initiative of Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, OM, FRS, with the aim of providing children suffering from life threatening heart disease with the corrective surgery and treatment to which they do not have access.
It is estimated that as many as 15 million children die or remain severely ill every year through potentially treatable or preventable cardiac diseases. Chain of Hope is an international children’s charity that links people and companies together to help children with heart disease in developing and war-torn countries to get the care that they desperately need.
Linking volunteer medical teams, host families and supporters, we work together to treat children in urgent need and to build up local cardiac services through training, provision of equipment and specialised support.
We help children with heart disease both by transporting them to partnering hospitals for urgent treatment and by building up cardiac services in developing countries so that future generations will have access to the treatment they need locally.
With your help we can save even more children's lives.
Chain of Hope is a registered charity in the UK No. 1081384 and a limited company No. 3933420

First mission to Tanzania completed. 9 little hearts mended.
Last week Chain of Hope coordinated its first mission to Tanzania at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar Es Salaam. Thanks to our friends at Save A Child's Heart for introducing us to this new project and to our amazing medical volunteers led by Dr Carin Van Doorn and Dr Gavin Wright.
... We look forward to working further to help the hundreds of children in Tanzania who are in need of cardiac care.

Today her heart was mended by Chain of Hope's Volunteer Surgeon, Francis Wells and the local cardiac team here in Ethiopia. Two integral elements of a solid cardiac programme are partnerships and mentorship. A special thank you to Save a Child s Heart for introducing Chain of Hope to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Tanzania and to our very own medical volunteers for selflessly sharing their knowledge and experiences across the centres we work with. Two vital links in the chain. #Savethechildren #cardiac #hearts #chainofhope

#throwbackthursday our President and Founder, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub OM, FRS , explains what hypertrophic obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HCM) does to the heart, by showing a replica of 15 year old Brianna's heart before he operated on her. HCM causes the muscle wall of the heart to become thickened, making it harder for the heart to pump blood around the body. Professor Yacoub is a specialist in HCM repair. #chainofhope #mendinglittlehearts #children #cardiac #charity
