This has been my 4th stay in 2 years. I have always had a thoroughly relaxing stay, spa facilities are fabulous with the refurbishment now complete, meals are very nice and I have always found the staff polite and engaging. I will definitely be back. Thanks to all for another lovely break.

User

My visit was a spa day for 2. I must say it was thoroughly enjoyable. The food was incredible, the staff were very helpful, the settings were beautiful.

This was my first visit and I will definitely recommend and be returning in the near future.

User

I stayed here for my wife's birthday overall a wonderful stay a great staff the only issue I had was on arrival.

When we arrived the lady on the desk was a bit lost on how to check us in .

When we asked were the room was she pointed over there so we had to find it ourselves didn't know were anything was no tour we were given a map told the small restaurant was closed for dinner that was not correct it was open . Finally we were aloud to eat there for dinner.

Window lock was broken told reception said it would be fixed never was lucky it was good weather

Restaurant staff were excellent

Did a class in chiball instructor was fantastic the same for the core workout

We were happy with all just remember first impression last when I had finished at reception felt disappointed

User

I have just experienced my first visit to Champneys and enjoyed every minute of it. My three friends have all been many times and the only thing was that the beautiful restaurant was temporarily closed but nevertheless we enjoyed all our meals in the breakfast/ lunch room. Food was delicious and lots of choice. We had a room overlooking the lake and swimming pool. We filled our days with activities of all kinds with relaxation too of course. I feel relaxed and rejuvenated and the staff were great, professional but fun too. I intend to visit Forest Mere again.

User

I had a spa day recently with a friend and will go back I felt completely relaxed and rejuvenated when I left .

The staff were polite and friendly and despite being quite busy didn’t feel rushed I treated myself to a full body Massage- my masseuse was Susie and she was superb, very professional and attentive and quickly put me at ease

The new pool area with the heat, cold, relaxed area was fab and the snow cabin very impressive

The new area for relaxing with water beds was lovely as was the area with the fake fire - shame it wasn’t a bit more soundproof as when the very loud aqua class is on it spoils the atmosphere

Lunch was very good with a nice selection of food

Check in was smooth and so was check out and products for sale seemed to be more reasonably priced than on previous visits

I do however have some critism though:

- the Thalassotherapy pool is in a terrible condition with one full bubble bed out of order , rusty sections and mouldy damaged tiles- this was one of the original installations and it shows, it needs a complete refurbishment and soon.

-The pool area itself has had some new additions but all the original areas are showing wear and tear

-the weather was beautiful so the outside spaces were in full use, there was a lot of dirty crockery and glassware around that wasn’t moved quickly , the seat cushions for the various lovely rattan seating and day beds were not put out so customers had to help themselves resulting in missing cushions and a general free for all. There was a lot of duck and other bird droppings everywhere.

-there seemed to be a lack of staff so clearing and setting up had not been done

User

Had a great day today! First time at a Champneys and I wasn't disappointed. Such a beautiful setting and the staff made me feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door (especially Monica and Esma).

Erica gave a quality deep tissue massage - one of the best massages I've had in 20yrs - feeling like new

Food was delicious too.

I cannot fault any part of the day and will look to return soon.

Thank you

Day Spa with a friend.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 star service and the premises. The facilities are just amazing , pool, saunas, steam room, freezer, huge hot tub , relaxation rooms (except the ones in the ladies changing rooms. Could do with waterbeds ,currently camp beds, that is a bit weird). Champneys team provide an uncompromising service. The food is devine, beautiful settings. Will book to stay soon. Thank You , we both totally.chilled 🌸

My first visit here so we were given a tour fairly soon after arrival. The Thalassotherapy pool session was absolute heaven and well worth the extra cost. My body had never felt as relaxed as it was after that session. The dinner on our first night was perfect, absolutely delicious and good service. Breakfast was a normal buffet breakfast seen in many hotels. Lunch was incredible, so much choice we had to just choose our favourite dishes. Dinner the second night was slightly disappointing. My starter was inedible, I realised after one nibble, my daughter totally agreed so we shared her starter. The waiter made no comment taking away a virtually untouched starter however the main course and dessert was superb and we were both full so missing a starter was a minor thing. The staff were all polite and helpful. The design in the restaurant was fascinating and very unique and the building was extremely well furnished and clean. We were given a free upgrade from standard to superior room. It was exactly the refreshing 2 day break that we needed, somewhere to recharge. I really hope to be able to return one day.

Although I loved this hotel I felt unable to award the hotel the full 5* because there is one area that they are failing people. I have a spinal problem and quite severe pain and had enquired beforehand about parking for the disabled and had been informed there was a disabled parking space area by the entrance. We followed the signs to the disabled parking area only to find the whole area full of cars none of which were displaying blue badges so we had to park further away which meant negotiating steepish slopes with luggage. The disabled parking area was gravel. I'm not a wheelchair user but knowing many people who are, I know that it is practically impossible to push a wheelchair on a gravel surface. As this surface puts the disabled person at a disadvantage the hotel is breaking the law by failing to keep to The Equality Act 2010 which states disabled people must not be at a disadvantage to fully able people and that reasonable adjustments must be made when necessary. The elevator was out of order so we had to carry our cases up to our room although a man did see me struggling and kindly carried my case into our room. I do feel that major changes are needed to provide clearly marked disabled parking bays stating they are for the use of blue badge holders and that they must be displayed and the surface of that area needs to be smooth for wheelchair users. It would be good if the hotel saw it as a priority to make these changes in order to comply with the law, The Equality Act 2010.

Lovely resort, only had 2 issues.

Dinner - One restaurant was closed and service wasn't great. First night we were forgot about and dessert took over an hour to be requested for after our plates had been taken, second night we couldn't be left alone, had two servers keep coming and asking, even when we'd given in our order. Also we were paying separately for drinks and this wasn't carried over at departure.

Noise - There was construction going on around the resort which meant some areas I couldn't stay in and enjoy. Would have been nice to be told beforehand.

Apart from that the pool area and water bed rooms were bliss, the suite I stayed in was amazing and the food was really nice. Hoping to go again soon!

User

It was our first trip to Champneys so had no idea what to expect. A magnificent location, so beautiful. After checking in, we went to our room. A large room & quite spacious with a large bathroom. Really pleased the towels were big enough to go around me!

We wasted no time settling in by having our body wraps a few hours after arriving at the hotel. My skin felt like silk afterwards & I was so relaxed. I was advised not to use the pools or shower for at least an hour to let the oils, etc really absorb the skin. We decided to take advantage of the spectacular weather & relax on sun loungers outside near the spectacular lake.

Around us were several ducks just waddling around, so cute......

Dinner was top notch, very high standard & tasted delicious. Very surprised to see certain items were charged extra if selected.

Later that evening we looked at the timetable to see what activities were available. Again I was surprised that certain events were charged.

Over the weekend, we made use of the facilities - indoor & outdoor pools, jacuzzi's, hot tubs, steam & sauna. Attended a talk about tapping which was so interesting.......

Overall the weekend was unforgettable; was a pity that it got so overcrowded because the sun loungers ran out due to so many people there with day & overnight passes. Chamneys need to accommodate for the increasing numbers so everyone can enjoy the experience.

User

Amazing day! Such lovely food and great spa facilities. We also joined in with a dance class in the morning and a skincare class in the afternoon which were both very good.

Unfortunately it was the attention to detail that was lacking - it was very busy but there weren’t any cups at the refreshment areas and the drinking water had run out multiple times. Given how lovely the weather has been it was a shame that the outdoor area wasn’t ready for guests (no cushions on the outdoor chairs overlooking the lake, and some rubbish/old equipment was left abandoned) which looked a little untidy.

Other than that, we had a lovely day and will definitely be visiting again.

User

Stayed here for my one year wedding anniversary. The spa and grounds are beautiful, and so was our room. My only complaints would be; we wasn’t given a tour so we didn’t know where we was going when we arrived, and we didn’t get given robes/locker watches on arrival either. We kept having to ask where everything was. The food in general was lovely, but my main dish of Stir fry was so bland and not served very nicely. Also, when we was waiting to be seated at meal times, we often was stood waiting with no staff acknowledging us or going the extra mile to see were waiting and to sit us down, it was like it wasn’t there job to do that so they wouldn’t help. Overall a really pleasant stay, just a few niggles that put our experience down a little.

User

I have been coming to Forest Mere for over ten years at least twice a year and whilst the facilities have grown and changed over the years definitely for the better and it is a really beautiful place I have noticed that there are quite a few areas where i think should be addressed by Champneys.

The grounds are beautiful but I fail to understand why a hedge has been put almost all the way around the lake so that a lot of the wonderful view has been lost especially if sitting outside on the sunbeds. The only open space with a view is from the little pontoon which seems to be permenently locked for some reason.

The outdoor pool was open this weekend and the sun was shining so all was beautiful there - except four ladies moved their sun beds under the only shower so that was inaccessible and later in the day another six ladies crammed their beds around the table where you collected pool towels from - staff should be monitoring this much better and maybe put the towels at the entrance to the pool not pushed up in a far corner.

Champneys has proved to be very popular with overnight guests and day guests and can be extremely overcrowded at times and again staff should be monitoring this issue - dressing gowns and towels are strewn about the chairs, beds and hangers making the whole pool area especially very untidy so used towels need to be removed more often or more signs put up asking people to put towels in the bins provided.

The breakfast is as good as it has always been - the new toasters are useless though as people are crowing around not sure whether to put their slice of bread in if people are already using the toaster. The old toaster with the conveyor belt was so much easier to use in a confined space.

Lunch is as good as always but replacing empty dishes at both breakfast and lunch can be very slow and somethings don’t get replaced at all.

Dinner - this used to be pretty formal with a choice from a leather menu and a different menu every evening. Now there is a paper affair with the same menu every evening that I was there. On top of this so many items on the menu had ‘extra charges’ including side dishes of vegetables- surely at dinner you expect some vegetables to be served with your fish/meat (as always used to be the case).

My personal thought it that Champneys, to boost their profits are crowding more and more people in and reducing their costs by charging for all the things that used to be included. On my checkout invoice this last visit and the two visits before I was charged for items that I didn’t have so the invoice needs to be scrutinized carefully.

However, none of the above stopped my from having a good relaxing weekend in lovely surroundings and all the staff were very helpful and very friendly.

User

I gave this 3 stars because although when I arrived I had a lovely relaxing time, great water beds and spa, I felt let down by the booking up on phone left holding and charging you 7p a minute for it, rescheduled a booking for a later time without informing me, not told when I arrived that there was a complimentary breakfast so missed it; rude staff first because I forgot my trainers I couldn’t join in the indoor cycling, when asked if I could borrow a pair she couldn’t usher me out quick enough, the restaurant staff told me they were not open yet even tho it was 2 minutes to 12 when my lunch was due, and rudely told us to wait outside, when we did get in we were in the wrong restaurant, as was not told about breakfast; we were also not told where to have lunch. Fly in the wine, pool not cleaned of flys and no fresh towels left or re-filled. The massaging is too expensive £49.00 for 25 mins

I have been visiting Champneys’s for a few years now, but on this visit, I have certainly seen a change and not for the good.

User

Great place loving my stay BUT we have no water, nothing at all !!! And how did i find this out? From my pedicurist.....no announcement, no notices, not one word from Champneys. When challenged they said they'd known about this since the morning (but no mention on booking in at 4pm !) At 7pm they were getting an external company in but its now 11pm and still no water !!!

I am fairly easy going and accept things happen but to have NO info from management is appalling. Tonight i went for dinner with horrible hair as i had no way of rinsing the product from my hair after a head massage, tbh I'd rather not have had the massage but wad not given the choice.

Champneys .......you've let me down

User

Fanstastic facilities - terrible food. I have been coming here for about 10 years and it has been my absolute treat and regular getaway. The new refurbishments are fantastic. However, on my last 2 visits the food has been absolutely appalling! Clearly there has been a change in the chef / chefs. The lunch salads are plain and boring, with few options, there were hardly any vegetarian options, the 'half' jacket potatoes were hard and overcooked, the fish was dry. I sent my evening meal back twice as it was inedible and ended up with a salad - equally inedible with a dressing that had so much mustard it made my eyes water. The pudding was like a cement jelly. Such a shame and so v v disapppointing having used this place as an absolute sanctuary. I do agree with some comments about the staff being unprofessal but I like them on the whole. But I cannot come here again unless they do something about the appalling food. Such a shame.

User

Currently staying here for my birthday with my fiancé, grounds are beautiful and relaxing everything you’d look for in a spa. If rated food separately I’d only give 1* service is poor and although the staff are friendly Just very slow. I honestly can’t express how poor the food is and lack of variety and very plain. If was to return for the spa I definitely wouldn’t be eating here!

User

I have yet to attend but have booked a birthday treat with some friends - come on Champneys hope your treatments live up to expectations because your on line booking service is awful, your phone lines expensive - surely it shouldn’t be this hard to book a well earned break

User

All very tired and worn around the edges. Seems to me they are starting to live off reputation and looking to milk you for what they can get. This is disappointing as extra charges for standard items of food is poor form. Got charged £6 for two orange juices and for a moment I thought I was back in central London. The food is bang average and lots of it looked like it came from catering tins and packets. My partner ordered the cheese which was an extra charge and the four bits that arrived were nothing short of manky. The spuds we had you could have used them as cricket balls. When I asked the waiter he said don’t tell my boss but it’s all cooked earlier and reheated. Not great.

On the staff we had mixed results the guys in the restaurant were pretty friendly on the whole but there are a few snooty ones who think they’re beautiful and above you, yeah right! Nobody explained anything on arrival and it was up to us to work out where everything was ...not onerous but not luxury either. Loved the pool and accompanying bits and the use of the bikes was great. BUT PLEASE can they have someone who knows their recommended routes. We went on the 6 mile circuit and nobody we could find knew the route at all. I’m an experienced rider and it took all my wits and my GPS App to have any idea how to get round.

Wouldn’t recommend this place until they up their game, stop living off their name and add some charm and luxury back into it ...oh a new mattresses please my back has just about recovered from the springs digging into it 😂

I have yet to attend but have booked a birthday treat with some friends - come on Champneys hope your treatments live up to expectations because your on line booking service is awful, your phone lines expensive - surely it shouldn’t be this hard to book a well earned break
