Had a brilliant evening last night for my mums surprise birthday meal! The staff we’re extremely helpful and polite and the food was gorgeous, will certainly come again thank you!

User

Forget about the negatives on here . We had 5 star service. 5 star quality food. Weeping tiger steak was excellent and very tender not fat whatsoever. Sharing platter starters excellent. Could not fault anything. Highly recommend. Eaten at sister restaurant in Sheffield and Newcastle. Cannot fault any.

Attended a cooking lesson at Chaophraya leeds with friends yesterday and it was fantastic. We spent 3 hours learning how to cook and then eat Tod Man Pla (fish cakes) Geang kiew Wan Gai (Green Chicken curry) and Thai Coconut pancakes. Each dish was first demonstrated to us and then we were given as much help as we required to cook the dish from scratch before tucking in and eating it whilst our tutors prepared the cooking area for our next course.

And was surprise at the end by being given our chefs aprons, hats and thd remainder of our thai green curry paste to take home.

Mmmm delicious

After my first weekend off in a long time I had to catch up on a lot of things, mates on Friday night good old knee ups and the ball and chain had a wobbler with me so I had a good catch up agin with my mates on Saturday night aswell so your wondering why Iam tell you this BECOUSE believe me I had some making up todo by Sunday and a good old McDonald's wasn't going to do this🤔

All I can say is chaophraya was amazing!! the staff and food couldn't fault one bit and if it wasn't for this place I'd be back at my mums, will definitely come again without question

User

A great evening served buy superb staff. 100% positive.

User

Have been here many times in the past and loved the atmosphere, food and staff! Went for a meal recently in the evening to find the menu has lost most of its dishes (including our favourites!). The music was too loud and we had to shout across the table to hear each other. As we were sat eating staff were sat on tables and watching us making us feel rushed. Not what you want for a romantic valentines meal! Such a shame as it was our top rated Thai!

User

From our last visit (August) things have changed at Chaophraya, we went last night and the menu seems to have halved! With most of our favourites gone, the cocktail menu has all but gone too! The starter platter used to be amazing the new platter was terrible thrown together and the presentation was terrible. The waiter forgot our plates and took 15 mins to get them by this point our starter was pretty cold. The food was ok but nothing like it used to be, please go back to how you were! We loooovveeed this place and would recommended it to everyone sadly I don't think we will be doing that any more

User

Came here for my birthday celebrations with a group of 14 friends. Set menu was extremely confusing with so much food wasted at for £30 pp you shared 4 dishes between 3 people. Not good value for money & even charge us for the tiny bit of birthday cake they gave me when singing. Also with a huge service charge on the end. Table was booked at 8.15 & we did not get our mains until 10pm.

Disappointing. Used to love this place but it has changed into a more corporate chain.

User

Arrived for a reservation. 2 hours dining. complimentary 2 glasses of prosecco arrived to help the birthday celebration. but the first course took 45 mins to arrive, both the starter and main tasted amazing ...and stuffed perfectly and so declined desert (would be pushed on time). completely ruined when asked to pay for the wine, so the bill was rejected and amended without argument. our bill increased by 15%, this was better than 25% experienced by the table next you us

so food =excellent

service = slow

billing = joke

Went for an evening meal with my wife and sister in law, had let them know when booking one of us was vegan, also TripAdvisor listing has 'vegetarian and vegan friendly'. There do seem to be vegetarian options on the menu with a V symbol. However, when we asked if there was fish sauce in the red or green vegetable curries the waiter checked and came back to tell us there was and that because these are made up in a large batch it can't be made without it. The Tofu pad Thai was made individually so could be made vegan and this was what was chosen. To be fair we all really enjoyed the food we were served, however it is not acceptable to list dishes as vegetarian when they are not because they contain fish. This is a large professional seeming restaurant that ought to know better, for us it is about personal ethical decisions but it could be more serious if it was for allergy reasons.

User

Well we thought the atmosphere was lovely and enjoyed our starters - then it happened!!!!

We were at the sunken table.

The waitress bringing our drinks bent down to

Put my gin on the table and tilted the tray pouring my tonic water all down my back!!!! They were mopping me off with tissues!!!

When the main courses came Kate had ordered shrimp salad but it had no shrimps in sight!! She asked where they were and was told they had run out of shrimps so just gave her salad without even telling her!!!

We asked if we could have prawns instead and they said 'no' and took the salad away giving her the menu to pick again. Who would serve a shrimp salad with no shrimps and just plonk it down in front of you without an explanation?

My son ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was raw!!!!!!!

It was sent back after he nearly gipped and all they said was we will check better next time.

It was a comedy of errors.

I got 2 free drinks after wearing one.

Kate didn't really get anything and they knocked the chicken off the bill. They threw in the tiny cheesecake they brought for our daughters birthday FOC. But it would not have been worth the £7.50 they were going to charge us!!

Gave us 15% discount for our trouble.

We won't be back again. Very Poor service and the food does not make up for it.

User

We have been a few times and rated both the service and food highly. Tonight both were terrible. We had to ask to be served, we had to order drinks from the bar and the food was really not very nice. They blamed it on being busy but our booking was not until 9pm. We asked for the manager but he didn't come - just discounted our bill. Hoping they recover as this was our favourite restaurant. Not sure we will go back soon though

User

This used to be our favourite restaurant in Leeds but they’ve completely changed the service staff and it’s now appalling, can’t fault the food but after waiting two hours after our booked time it didn’t matter how good it was......please sort it out

User

Oh no what has gone wrong here. Banged on for ages to a friend to go here and used to be my favourite place to eat in Leeds. Booked a late table for 9:30 which was fine. Sat down ordered food. Waited 30 minutes to be told 2 orders were no longer available. Starters came which were fine then to be told the second preference wasn’t available for my friend as she is slightly fussy. The menu being very limited now she ended up with 2 starters as a main (by this time it is 10:30. Main courses came out just before 11pm. My main was really nice. Partners main was average just ended up a chicken salad at the end of the day. Friends starters (chicken spring rolls and ribs) were plain and no meat on the ribs at all. Waitress came over and did ask if everything was ok I think she could tell it wasn’t really that great. Manager called for and meal ended up for free and just paid for drinks. Staff were helpful but you could tell it was the end of the night. Waiting for email from them. I really hope this was a one off as I loved this place and never had a bad experience. More disappointed as we had told our friend about it for so long how great it was ( she had never eaten Thai food). Sorry guys but it was a let down last night 👎🏻

User

If you want great tasting food but exceptionally POOR service then book a table! Having booked weeks in advanced this experience has left a sour taste. We have had three different waiters, of which none have checked in to see how our food was. There have been long waits in between ordering food and drink, we had to ask for the complimentary prawn crackers and main courses were served incomplete. We’ll pay the bill, but won’t be leaving a tip. Shame.

Booked an anniversary meal last night, arrived at 8.45, we were left at the tables at the entrance for 30 minutes. We ordered drinks and they didn't come. Complained and got taken to our table and they had no record of our drinks order. Eventually we got a drink. ordered our food, had our starter and waited until 10.10 for our main. They gave us hot plates on our table and by time the main came they were cold. Nobody came near us to offer more drinks. In end I complained about not having a drink for ages and our main taking so long. I was told it was very busy upstairs. Which was disappointing because we were still paying a lot of money. We noticed other tables getting help with the menu and being looked after but we were ignored most of the time. My partner ordered steak on a sizzler plate and hadn't realised it didn't come rice etc. We tried to find someone to order some once it arrived and couldn't find anyone. So his main was some steak slices and onion basically. We weren't advised of sides at the time of ordering which is probably our fault for not noticing but a heads up from staff considering that dish was £19 on its own would have been nice. Despite already complaining twice nobody asked if we needed more drinks or if we were happy with the main. In the end, I asked for the bill and was frustrated to see it was full price when we had such rubbish service and had informed staff twice of this. As we had a train to catch in 15 minutes we paid and left but would not be back. It's a real shame because the staff are lovely (when they came near us) the food we had was tasty and the cocktails (when they arrived) were fab but my partner had to get a burger on the way home so really... it wasn't worth the £82 we paid!

User

Birthday lunch was not great, beautiful surroundings and cocktails l, but Asian tapas was dried up and awful, so disappointed after hearing such great things, only the squid was edible.

User

Really disappointing. This was a our third or fourth trip to Chaopraya and previously my partner and I have had thoroughly enjoyable evenings with good food and service.

However, our previous visit was like being a different - a much worse - restaurant. It took us about 30mins and multiple requests to finally get some drinks and prawn crackers. I was personally disappointed to see they'd swapped draught Singha for Coors. A bizarre decision to swap an authentic, quality lager for some weak, American alternative (the drinks menu was also out of date).

The menu appears to have changed. More limited, which I don't usually mind, but this was too limited in choice. The food came out VERY quickly and was not good at all. The quality of the food certainly didn't reflect the price. Additionally, service throughout was average, disorganised and underlined a disappointing evening.

We will stick to Sukothai going forwards.

Oh my god, what the hell has happened to this place?! This was our favourite place to eat but after last night, I don't think I'll ever be back again. The menu has changed massively from the last time we were there and most of our favourites had gone. We ordered the Chaophrya sharing platter to start and what a joke this was. The chicken satay was not even chicken. It was more like the giblets that you throw away! The fishcakes were no bigger than a 50 pence piece and were more rubbery than the tyres on my car. The salad was a basket of beansprouts with a few peanuts, I'm not even joking. I was so disgusted, I should have taken a picture but I didn't even think. The two spring rolls and 2 prawns were lovely but at £20 for a starter, it was hardly value for money. Then the mains. Who is supplying your meat?! The weeping tiger is my husband's favourite, this used to be made with fillet steak but that is not what he got last night. Looked like my grandma's over cooked joint on a Sunday! Dry as anything! Also, it was really fatty. Speaking of which, I had the lamb teriyaki. It was lamb cutlets. No meat on there, it was all fat. The best thing was the coconut rice, they didn't change that and it was delicious! That should not be the highlight of the meal. And then being presented with a bill for £80! Oh god I nearly died. We had to go to trinity kitchen to get something decent to eat!

It's such a shame because we absolutely loved this place and didn't mind paying £80 for a quality meal. That is absolutely not what we got last night and if I want old beef, I can make that myself for loads less than what you robbed from us last night. Sort your suppliers out, get your decent chefs back, and you might be back to where you were before you lost the plot.
