Chase Trails Volunteer Trailbuilders
About Chase Trails Volunteer Trailbuilders
Trail building volunteer group responsible for the official mountain biking trails of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England.
Chase Trails Volunteer Trailbuilders Description
Chase Trails was founded in 2002 to work with the Forestry Commission to bring a mountain bike trail to Cannock Chase in the Staffordshire Midlands, in England. Ten years later, Cannock Chase is now one of the most popular trail centres in the country, with over 14 miles of cross country trails and a thriving Downhill community at Stile Cop.
Becoming a volunteer is easy - we meet outside Swinnerton Cycles at Birches Valley Forest Centre every Sunday at 10am come rain or shine, and head out to the trails to dig!
This page is managed by Will and Stu from Chase Trails.

Absinthe is coming along nicely. We're very close to being finished working on it, then it'll need some time to bed in then we'll reopen it. We finished the boardwalk today (aside from the step off the end) - check out this quick video...
Tomorrow!
Don’t forget, we won’t be trailbuilding tomorrow either...
The IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire is taking place this Sunday.
This event includes major road closures throughout the county so if you are planning a visit this Sunday, please check your route before travelling at the website below.
Access to Birches Valley is heavily affected. Also, we will NOT be trailbuilding this Sunday.

A rather wet day today...we've half finished the boardwalk on Absinthe now. Arguably our best boardwalk build yet - this thing feels bomb-proof. Chunky wood and plastic posts means it's built to last!
Elsewhere on the trail, we dumped some rocks for the new 'black feature' at the very start to replace the old log skinny, and had a look at the surfacing. It's bedding in nicely but the parts we've done in the last three weeks or so are still very very soft, so it'll need a lot ...more time to bed in. There's probably 2-3 more days of work (at least) to do then however long it takes for everything to bed in, before we can reopen it.
ALSO, PLEASE NOTE: The IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire is next weekend (on Sunday), so please bear this in mind - there will be MAJOR disruption to loads of roads around Cannock Chase and Staffordshire, including Birches Valley itself - please see the attached photo for details of what roads will be closed. As such, we will NOT be trailbuilding next weekend.

It's a bank holiday weekend, yayyyy! Anyone got any plans for the weekend? 🙂
If you haven’t seen this yet...give it a watch, because it’s absolutely brilliant. 🤣
Top job yet again by Cut Media with Danny MacAskill!
More work done on Absinthe today. We're getting close - just a bit more surfacing near the start left to do, plus the new boardwalk to build, and we'll be done! 💪👏

Struggling for ideas for things to do this weekend?
Come trailbuilding! 😁
With tomorrow's race, the Tackeroo area of Follow the Dog will be pretty busy. Please take care if riding through the area.
The race route does NOT use any part of Follow the Dog so the trail remains completely open to ride if you're not racing - however the race route does cross Follow the Dog four times, so if asked by a marshal to stop and wait please do so. 👏
Also - if you are riding off-piste around Tackeroo at any point in time, please do take care not to break the tape for the race route - Matt from Run & Ride and his team take ages to set the course up and put a lot of effort into the off-piste trails around the Tackeroo block, so the least people can do is respect the course tape. If you need to cross it, please jump off your bike and duck under it - there's no need to break it. Thanks. 🙂
It’s race day tomorrow! If you’re riding through Tackeroo why not stop and watch the action for a bit? 👏👏
For those of you who ride at Stile Cop, please note that the entire hill will be closed during the week for harvesting operations.
Some trails will be open during weekends.
The first round of the Racers Guild Racing Works Components Summer Series 2019 is this weekend.
If downhill racing is more your style, why not give it a go? Round 1 takes place on the Wonderland trail at Stile Cop this Sunday - entries close at 9pm tomorrow!
We had our very late 'Christmas' meal today with the teams from Chase Trails, the Racers Guild (Stile Cop Downhill Trails), and Forestry England (Cannock Chase Forest) at the The Wolseley Arms.
Nice to catch up with everyone and a big thank you to the Forestry folks and the team at the Wolseley Arms for putting on a fantastic meal for us!
