Went to this pub after a walk along the river and part of Oundle with wife and daughter. They are dog friendly, and we decided to have a well earned lunch and a pint, food is lovely and they catered for daughter not being ale to eat onions.

Very good selection of beers and a good variety on the lunch menu, highly recommended.

We had our wedding reception at The Chequered Skipper at the end of September and I cannot fault the service we received! The venue is beautiful. The service on the day was second to none-they really looked after us. And the food....FANTASTIC!!! Everyone said how much they enjoyed the food and how lovely the venue was. We’re now trying to find another reason to hold a party there!! Thank you so much Ian and the team for helping us have such an amazing day!

We had our wedding in the chequered skipper Ashton on Saturday 26.6.16 the food was amazing every thing ran smoothly no hick ups the staff was so nice polite and very helpful which really did make our day and on the behalf of my Husband and myself Mrs Holderness we would like to thank Ian and his great team of staff

We celebrated our parents' Diamond Wedding Anniversary in the Chequered Skipper's function room today 24.7.16. The staff and particularly Ian were fabulous and made us all feel so much at home. The food was out of this world and we would not hesitate in recommending this place as a venue for your celebration meal.

Visited for the first time yesterday based on a recommendation. We were not disappointed. The welcome was warm and friendly. The venue is beautiful, the service was brilliant and the food absolutely fantastic �

Traditional Sunday roast beef was on the menu when we phoned to make a booking. Expectations were exceeded even though we know this unique venue always produces great food. Shared a spanish platter starter that was first class then presented with a wonderful plate of perfectly cooked rib of beef, (including a rib itself) which was rare and plentiful. perfect selection of vegetables including the best roast parsnips we can remember eating. The Spanish tempranillo proved the perfect wine partner. Exceptional value for top quality food. Recommended!!

Myself and my Husband have just today returned to the chequered skipper for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The food as always was amazing and Ian did everything possible to make us feel so special.

I cant rate the chequered skipper or the staff highly enough, they have always gone above and beyond expectations and i am so thrilled to have had our wedding there. Would recomend to anyone in a heartbeat. Perfect wedding venue!

Mouth watering fillet steak, tasty local cider... eating out gluten free was no problem - first real dessert for ages (chocolate brownie) and I rolled away home with a big, satisfied smile on my face.

Made to feel very welcome, food was amazing and staff very friendly- despite a wedding in the green room taking place - would certainly recommend x

Fantastic! We needed gluten free food and the waitresses couldn't of been anymore helpful! There was such a selection to choose from, the majority of the menu was either already naturally gluten free or it could be adapted. The gluten free bread was also one of the best we've ever tasted! A lot of restaurants now do cater for celiacs but the trouble we have is with cross contamination in the kitchen - this restaurant went above and beyond to accommodate though and we will definitely be coming back!

Fantastic food fantastic staff cannot fault the place or the people had our Wedding reception nothing is a problem there 4 yrs ago and we return every year This place is 5 star plus

26 of us had dinner here last night and everything was fantastic. Service was brilliant and the food was so good. Definitely be back very soon.

We had already eaten earlier in the day elsewhere but wanted to eat a light lunch. We popped in to the Chequered Skipper because we had seen good reviews, hoping to get a table. This place is in a quaint part of the town and is really picturesque. The staff although busy were very welcoming. I asked for a smaller portion of the battered fish and chips and my friend opted for the salmon salad with a portion of chips, both of which were freshly cooked and really tasty. The inside of the building although very old could be cleaner (windows in particular), however if you're looking for a quaint restaurant with a friendly environment and good, tasty food this is the place. We will be back 😊

Beautiful pub in a gorgeous location. Food good, but not fabulous, but the service was brilliant. Perfect end to a circular walk along the Nene and through Oundle. We will definitely visit again.
