What a great place, just popped in for a quick snack, good food, great service, highly recommend!

User

Went here for sunday lunch for a friends birthday, sunday just gone.. omg the food was amazing, actually cant wait to go back! Really friendly and chatty staff too. We all had a lovely evening :)

User

We were lucky enough to be given a place at The Taste of Vintage tasting evening tonight.... what and absolute treat!!

We sampled a number of the new starters, mains and desserts. Highlights of the evening...

The starters - calamari on prawn cracker with a sweet chilli sauce and the prawn and lobster cocktail.

The mains - the wagyu beef burger, the steak and ale pie and the chicken pie. They were the perfect size for those with smaller appetites - my idea of heaven would be three mini pies, just like burger sliders!!

The desserts - Eton Mess and the Raspberry Cheesecake - Wow!!! And that’s coming from someone who doesn’t normally like desserts.

Fab evening, thank you so much Neil and staff for a really great night. We are really looking forward to joining you again to enjoy the new menu

We went there for Easter lunch after have booked online; staff very friendly and professional. The food was good and we enjoyed it. I only saw all the bad reviews after being there and I am a bit confused, they must have changed quite a lot recently because we had a great lunch and we will definitely come back. The only suggestion is to “adjust” the espresso, but I am italian and of course not easy to please with that.

User

Such a nice pub, very dog friendly! Had a lovely afternoon.

User

Lovely Pub, great food ~ never had a bad meal there ......yet

If you ever find yourself at a loss of where to find a decent place to eat.

I recommend chequers in Stevenage. Friendly staff, clean pleasant dining area, a good selection of drinks and tasty food menu.

User

Went there last night with my friend for the first time for me. Was seated quickly and approached quickly to place our drinks order . After that there was a very long wait for the drinks then our food followed afterwards. After ordering out desserts there was a very very long wait for the desserts so after a while we had to remind the staff if we had been forgotten. They did apologies and bought our desserts ASAP. So we then ordered our coffee at the same time as we couldn’t wait any longer. Apart from that the food was absolutely brilliant and staff were polite but just very slow service.

User

We arrived to eat bout 6.30 in the evening was told was half hour wait which was ok then we got menus and when she come to take our order everything i asked for was told oh we none of that left very disappointing which left me not much choice so i ordered sirlon steak my husband ordered steak pie which arrived but we had ordered starters first vwhich we didnt get my steak had a few chewy bits to it and my husband said the steak pie was chewy too but the vegtables and mash potatoe was good but after this experince first time with you will probaly not return as the service wasnt good either.

User

My husband really enjoyed his burger and it was a large one which he also liked. His coffee was not very warm however. I had the ham and mustard roll/sandwich which came with chips. I was disappointed as it said with rustic bread and it came on quite unpleasant bread - a bit like those ciabata rolls that you heat up but without being heated up. I think if you are just having a roll with a few chips the bread has to be decent. It was also pretty dry - a little bit of salad might have helped - for what I got I thought a little overpriced.

User

First time at this place. Food was good and hot with large portions. The service time was awful. 10 minute wait just to be asked what drinks we wanted then another 10 mins for them to turn up. Had to ask for our order to be taken as well. Another long wait. Will not go again. Would have given 5 starts but service let it down

User

Bit disappointed with the quality of food as its always been really good. The chicken blt sandwich came in a cold dry toasted ciabatta roll and the "triple cooked chips" were clearly under cooked luke warm limp frozen chunky chips. Service was weird as the meals had at least 10 mins inbetween the first order coming out and the 2nd one (there was only 2 of us). Garden is still nice.

User

Poor service. Table of 8 on a Wednesday evening at 6pm, so the pub wasn't busy.Starters were not great. Squid starter was the worst ive ever had. Main courses were ok. Mediocre pub food. Might have enjoyed it more if the service had been a bit friendlier. Not enough staff and had to wait ages for our meals. Definitely wouldn't go back.

User

Love this pub as it’s a nice lack walk for us, food amazing when it eventually arrives . Staff pleasant and polite, if you have the whole day so spare for a lunch break go with confidence

User

What a shocking shambles at the CHEQUERS BRAGBURY END STEVENAGE yesterday,Christmas dinner after waiting hours, was awful.£60 a head for 9 of us......and the staff in tears literally having to be consoled by us.....as so short staffed.....manager left the three of them to serve the whole place and deal with all the complaints we felt so sorry for them we cleared our own table as well as others to try and help them.....we only went out on Christmas Day to make it easier on my self after all my cancer treatment this last year and also the fact my daughter Is due her baby soon! we still made the most of it and enjoyed our time together.

User

Very long wait for meal. Salty and burnt

User

Very disappointed yesterday lunchtime. Returned there for meeting with friends after a break of a few months. Poor service, cremated egg on chips (which were very greasy). fish and chips-just gougons. Charged extra for sweet potato chips which not stated on menu. Apparently refurbished, but only noticed bit of new carpet.

User

The food was pretty dire to be fair. We used to eat here all the time and we were always impressed but this last time was not good at all. We went for my birthday meal before a show and if it wasn't for the friends I was with the chequers could have ruined the evening entirely. I decided to have a salad for my main....how does anyone cock up a salad? Such a shame!

User

The Chequers does not even deserve 1 star. Went for a family roast yesterday and left without paying due to a whole host of reasons, including very poor food which came out only warm, dirty surroundings (tables left uncleaned from when we arrived to leaving) service extremely slow (baring in mind ourselves and another table was the only diners)!! Toilets dirty, no hand soap and clearly hadn't been cleaned for a long period. No gents toilets as our of order! Staff polite but half of them didn't even know what they was doing or what was on the menu. I could go on!! We didn't finish our food and left along with the other diners. We went down the road and had our desserts at the next pub along. I have since heard other information on this pub with regards to management and health and hygiene...shutting down is what should be done now.
