After Storms Ciara & Dennis, we are pleased to say the club has come away unscathed apart from some soggy ditches (don’t panic, the pirate ship’s still intact), Gogmore Park on the other hand... #niceweatherforducks #allabitofhotair 🏴‍☠️ 🌬 🦆

The Chertsey Premier League is the rebel World Series Cricket of Chertsey, and full of carnage but as much as most of it is unprintable one player caught our eye last season's CPL tournament for all the ill-behaved reasons. Step forward Dickie Ley. Mr Ley decided in one match to forgo shoes, in another played for two separate teams, but most naughtily in the CPL Final we can only assume mistook his sports drink for lager, but alas it didn’t help his performance.

All male senior Captains sadly moved to pastures new, thankyou for everything Greg, Phil, Ricky, Neil, and Jack, what you have achieved is incredible and you leave huge shoes to fill. So now we have some new faces in charge...
We’re still on the lookout for a 3s and Sunday Captain though so make yourself known if that’s a job you fancy, but here are your new El Capitans for 2020 (l-r):
1s - Jack Ogle... 2s - Matt Wiggins 4s - Sam Toone

Well that’s another AGM done. Phe-ew!
Everyone’s voted in (well almost).
We would however very much like to introduce you to our new President, Mr Mark Pulling...
... ”Pullo” has been with the Club for over 35 years, seeing his two sons grow up through the Club. He has played in every senior team, was a fearsome batsman & bowler thorough his heyday in the 80s & 90s, and a stalwart to date in recent times in the 3s & 4s. Welcome to the President’s board Mr Pulling!

The AGM tomorrow night marks the end of current President Jim Denyer's reign, and you may be aware Jim's been poorly in the close-season but we've spoken to him recently and he's getting back to fighting fitness.
Jim's tenure has been all about the cricket, denoting a more traditional take on President's Day, spending most weekends and much of the week down the club offering advice and words of encouragement (and cultivating a possible future career as a TMS commentator) alon...g with continuing to nurture the relationship with main sponsor Crest Nicholson and getting the CCC word out to the wider cricket fraternity. We've loved seeing how proud its made him to become President and we've been very proud to have him. Before he hangs up his crown he'd like to deliver you a message however:
A Message From the President
"A few of you may know I have been unable to attend Club functions for the last three months due to a sudden illness and a long spell in hospital. It was disappointing to miss the enjoyment of presenting awards at the Colts Dinner and Cricket Club Dinner & Dance but I understand that both events were a great success.
To represent the Club for the last two years has been a great honour and I have witnessed much improvement in the general quality throughout the teams in both play and behaviour.
I would like to thank the Chairman and his Committee together with my small sub-Committee for their support and work in adding to the success and enjoyment of my two President Day events requiring much hard work. My aim was to improve the quality of the play on the day and provide stiffer opposition for the Club team. My thanks for Greg Burton for his help and support on the days.
I believe it is fair to say that the Club provide much more than just the cricket and financial stability but it is also a great place to spend a few hours on a sunny day.
Good wishes to my successor, and further advancement in the future of Chertsey Cricket Club."
Jim Denyer Chertsey Cricket Club President 2018-2019

You know us, we love a get-together, and no more so than a sporting occasion. Usually its football, or rugby, but last season the biggest thing to hit the pull-down screen was the Cricket World Cup. We had a family day to celebrate it, and people who hadn't been much into cricket before were obsessed. The Final coincided with a touring match hosting the Taranaki Wanderers, who were by happenstance, New Zealanders, so it made for a tasty and very loud encounter going into the latter stages of the match as it darted from ours to New Zealand's way, and thanks to a super-over, Archer, Buttler, et-al, the rest is history and it was cool of all of 5 minutes to understand cricket. 😎

We've been trawling the archives and found some epic TBTs.
First up: Mike the Pirate.
If you’ve never experienced the Social League in person, it is our little nugget of gold, throwing up entertaining characters, brilliant camaraderie, and last season we discovered Mike of the Pirates. The Pirates had been the bridesmaid of the Social League for a couple of seasons much to their chagrin, but last season they did it, and arrrr-ed their way right to the crows nest. On winning ...the trophy it was passed around the team and made its way to Mike, who’d only been playing for the Pirates fully last season, and he was extremely chuffed and overwhelmed, exclaiming “I never win anything” and “can I take it home or do we share it”. We assume its now in his downstairs loo and an IPL contract is imminent.

We hope you've finally dusted off the cobwebs, got through your backlog of unwanted mince pies, invested in some fancy lycra for the ensuing two gym visits you'll be making in 2020 and are ready for what the year has to offer. To get back into the swing of things we have sorted out our Winter net schedule.
Senior nets will be held at Matthew Arnold School every Tuesday evening (8pm-10pm) commencing 11th February for the 8 weeks thereafter (until 31st March). Each visit will be £5 to cover costs and are open to all senior teams so come down!
Colts nets start this coming week and will have been communicated in your specific age group Whatsapp groups but if you need further info just shout and we'll put you in touch with the right person.
