Penton Hook and Old Windsor locks will be unmanned this weekend - expect delays
Lock staffing issues - Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July 2019
Due to a combination of annual leave, sickness and 3 recent resignations from our team of 20 summer relief lock and weir keepers, we have an exceptionally high level of absence in our lock and weir keeping workforce this weekend.
To minimise the impact of the absences on our levels of assisted passage, we have lock staff due a day off this weekend working on overtime instead (subject to their availability). We have al...so asked staff in other roles to works at locks where they are qualified to, to provide additional cover.
Despite this, the following locks will be self-service for most of the day on Saturday or Sunday or both, as set out below, and you should be prepared to operate them yourself, and expect delays:
Saturday 6 July Sunday 7 July Penton Hook, Old Windsor, Bray, Temple, Shiplake, Blakes Whitchurch, Cleeve, Benson, Pinkhill, Buscot
If you are not familiar with the operation of a lock, or have not operated one for some time, you may find the guidance in The Boaters Handbook useful. If you are an experienced boater and used to operating locks yourself, please do offer assistance to anyone who may not be as confident. Please also be patient if you do find yourself having to queue to go through a lock. We thank you for your understanding, and apologise in advance for the inconvenience we know will be caused, despite our best efforts to avoid it.
