Chesters By The River

Superb. Great food in a great location. Menu is always changing and contains dished that you won't find anywhere else. It's purely vegetarian but as a met eater myself it is very tasty! Deserts are great too.

Really nice food and good location for some lunch or tea. Offers some great views of the river on the outside terrace. Plenty of food options for vegetarians or vegans plus all info on allergies. Only downside is that it's usually quite busy which makes service slower and atmosphere by the river not as calm. Also parking can be a bit difficult. There is a little shop connected to it with a brilliant selection of books, interior accessories and more.

A lesson in how to ruin a fantastic eatery. I have visited Chesters for years. Usually stopping for cooked breakfast mid walk, the food was always top notch, if overpriced. However, the management have ditched what it made it such a great place. The menu is now totally vegetarian, with dishes that might appeal to the trendy hipster set of London. Why the hell would I want "brunch" at 9am? Great local produce on your doorstep and the best you can do is Quinoa salads, at rip off prices. The once friendly staff replaced with an aloof arrogance. Plenty of places in Lakes offer better fare and better value. Sorry to say after years I won't be returning

Absolutely delicious. A standard in which all veggie establishments should hold by. I'm a meat eater and enjoyed everything, I had the chipolte bean wrap... cakes are expensive but worth every penny. Beautiful setting by a river and also doggie friendly. Made our week of constant rain more enjoyable. Thank you.

Not the cheapest but worth the premium. Friendly staff and a great location. Have recently opened the most amazing takeaway outlet on the side, with improved seating to accompany it. The cakes were delicious and the price in keeping with local establishments (if only they could keep the wasps off the sticky cakes in the takeout shop I'd have given five stars!)

Outstanding flat breads and pizzas. Doesn't cater to the carnivorous, but don't let that put you off as the menu is outstanding for variety. Great pitstop on the Cumbrian Way.

Excellent selection of healthy, fresh and tasty food. May not be the automatic crave after a long climb/hike/bike ride but meals were great - we felt full, energised and happy. Thanks.

Who doesn't love cake?? This place makes lovely cake and coffee. Located 2 minutes walk from Skelwith Force. Can be busy on sunny days, small car park. Now does takeaway, slightly cheaper too.

A nice environment, good food but generally very busy. Staff aren't particularly warm, though not unfriendly. You queue to order your food, which is usually quite long. Table service would be nice.
