Ethan was staying at one of our hospices when a number of red helium balloons were donated. His mum gently attached a balloon to each hand. Ethan normally keeps his arms by his side but on this occasion he allowed the balloons to lightly lift his hands and he followed the movements intently noticing that if he moved his arms, the ballons would move too.
Mum, Naomi, said “Something small meant so much to him and I. A beautiful moment which we shared with all his carers at CHSW.”

We’re celebrating Children’s Hospice Week with Together for Short Lives this week by increasing awareness of children’s hospices and showing how we help families to create moments that matter.
We hope you enjoy watching this short video of the lovely Sebastian giggling his way through a music therapy session at Little Bridge House with our music therapist Ceridwen 😊💚

This week is Children’s Hospice Week and we'll be shining a light on children’s hospice care and showing how, at each of our 3 hospices across the South West, we help families create precious moments that matter 💚
If you can, please make a donation towards helping us to make more moments that matter during this very special Children’s Hospice Week.
Thank You 😊

BIG shout-out to all the amazing Dads this Father’s Day!
Our hospices not only support seriously ill children and their siblings but their parents too.
They aim to be a home from home, offering practical and emotional support as well as providing a break from the daily demands of caring for their child.
... Enjoy your day Dads 👍😊💚

It’s Children’s Art Week this week so we thought we’d share this amazing video of Éva's incredible ‘tree ring pour’ acrylic painting.
Éva, aged 12, from Newton Abbot, gave us a demo during her recent stay at Little Bridge House and according to mum Rachael, painting is such an important creative outlet for Éva.
Rachael said: “Éva has been diagnosed with a rare brain tumour and is visually impaired, but this is the one thing she can control in her life. This is her way of esca...ping and she absolutely loves it.
“Éva has done about 30-40 paintings and has sold quite a few to buy more paints and materials. She has also been commissioned to create a large painting for our family practitioner and is hoping to hold an art exhibition and auction in late summer to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West and other charities that have helped her.”
Watch this space for details of Éva's upcoming exhibition!

There are still a few places left for teams of 10 wanting to take part in Dragon Boat racing on the River Dart on Sunday July 14 🐲🛶
There is also an opportunity for a smaller team of 6 to join forces with a group of 5 that is hoping to enter (to make a combined team of 10 paddlers plus a drummer).
Totnes Dragon Boat Challenge 2019 is being organised by Totnes Rotary Club and is raising money for Children's Hospice South West and Rowcroft Hospice.
... It looks like a lot of fun! If you’d like to take part, call organiser Geoffrey Hyde on 01364 73165 or visit the event website.

These students from Duchy College in Callington raised a fantastic £303 by taking part in our £20 Challenge.
What is the £20 Challenge we hear you ask, well...
The £20 Challenge is available for schools, colleges and university students to take part in to help raise vital funds for CHSW. In teams students are given £20 as a start up investment and they have to use their business skills to see how much they can raise from their £20.
... The challenge is ideal for inspiring students to use their entrepreneurial skills and creativity and allows for building skills in team work, managing money, business and fundraising.

"Our 3 year old son Toby has a genetic mutation which affects the way his brain works. Toby has many complex medical health needs and requires 24/7 care, which means life can be exhausting. When we go to the hospice, we get to spend quality time together as a family. We call Charlton Farm a holiday; it may only be 20 minutes up the road from us but it means we get to make memories, make new friends, eat hot meals which have been freshly prepared for us, use facilities which aren't accessible at home and have a good nights sleep or two!"
Mum Nerys is organising an event to raise funds for Charlton Farm - a place which means so much to her and her family. It's a celebratory evening being held at Yeo Valley Canteen, Blagdon in July. For more info, please visit https://www.chsw.org.uk/…/we-are-family -dinner-and-inclusiv… 💚

We can't believe that in just 5 weeks time our intrepid cyclists will be starting the three day Ride For Precious Lives 2019 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️
Sponsoring the event is Edwards Vacuum - who have generously been the event sponsors taken part in the ride since 2013.
Why is event sponsorship so important 🤔?
... It's simple, when a business can help us out by sponsoring an event it means that their sponsorship can help us to cover event costs. This means that even more of the money raised by those taking part in the event can go straight into helping us deliver specialist care to local children and families.

Hats off to one of our Little Harbour carers Dawn who between shifts is currently training hard to take part in a national bodybuilding competition in October while also raising funds for CHSW 💪
“I wanted to do something for the hospice, to prove my dedication and raise awareness of it. Little Harbour is like my second home, I truly adore my role in caring for children and helping their families. I am privileged and lucky to be a part of such a great team.
This is so far out ...of my comfort zone, however to have my life turned upside down for a few months and hopefully raise money for CHSW is nothing compared to daily challenges and heartbreak that many families I come into contact with suffer."
Read Dawn's full story here and we will keep you updated in the lead up to the competition https://www.chsw.org.uk/…/dawns-trainin g-national-competiti…

Countryside, animals, food, fun - all things we are so lucky that our hospices are surrounded by and embrace on a day to day basis.
This week we are really looking forward to being around many others celebrating these things too at the Royal Cornwall Show
Our stand is 93, (B1 on the map) so if you are visiting the show please come and say hi, stop off for some light refreshments and facepainting! 🤩🎨

Wow, this is an awesome bit of kit! Thank you so much to Graham Atkinson of WallPrinter UK Ltd for bringing his incredible new printing tech to Little Bridge House. The new mural in our soft play corridor looks absolutely fantastic and we’re sure it’ll be a HUGE hit with the children 👍🙂

We've been completely bowled over by the sponsorship raised by our London Marathon 2019 team. So far, they have collectively raised just over £100,000! That's enough to pay for the food bill at each of our hospices for an entire year.
We simply couldn't do the work we do without people fundraising and donating. Thank you so much 🙏 #TeamCHSW
