The excellent Shore cast solent pod lead has been out for some time now and proven incredibly popular. Very good at moving around a little until it finds those little fish holding depressions to settle in, it's a great feature finding lead in tough conditions.
We stock the range from 3.5 through to 6oz to cover all conditions.

We get asked an awful lot about "the best headlight" and the answer would depend on the circumstances you want it for. For squid fishing, you may want a bright light on the water, whereas for bass fishing you may want very little light or even better a red light.

The average squid is still fairly small at the moment, but there are good numbers of them, so whilst we wait for the bigger ones to arrive, the smaller 1.8 yamashita we now stock is the ideal squid jig.

Is there a better small match hook than the brilliant Owner Pint? Let us know your thoughts!
This hook has become one of our best sellers in the last couple of years. It is a Wormer shape, but with a lighter finer gauge than the other Wormers and a smaller eye, so better for slightly more delicate presentations. The Pint is also slightly off set.
We have sizes 2-10 on our mail order website and in store, at just ┬Ż1.99 a packet.

Last night saw the inaugural Christchurch Angling Centre and Army mixed pairs match. We drew for a partner on the night, one angler from the shop team and one from the Army team, so none of us knew who we'd be fishing with until an hour before the match. Steamer Point was the venue, with fishing from 7pm to 11pm. Scad and Mackerel were expected to dominate and, despite a slow start, they didn't disappoint. 7 different species showed, Scad being the most dominant along with M...ackerel, but Bass, Pout, Garfish a couple of Pollock and even a Conger put in an appearance. In total 372 fish were caught for a combined length of 93.77m. Not bad when you consider we only had 7 pairs! A very impressive and dominant performance by Malcolm Stote and Danny Gilbert saw them run out winners by a mile with over 20m of fish! Coming in behind them was the pair of Callum Graham and Neil Stephenson who pipped Tom Bagnall and Mike Mawson by just 3cm with a salvo of fish on the last cast of the match doing the damage! It was noticeable that the high peg numbers had more fish than the lows. Our new stickybaits stand is up and full of stock!

With the start of Squid season now upon us, we have added quite a few new jigs to our excellent Yamashita Warm Jacket range. The early season squid are usually small (but very tasty!), similar in size to the squid you buy as bait from the shop. So with this in mind we have introduced a new size, the 5.5g 1.8 is set to be a great option for those early squid. In the photo you can see the size difference between the 1.8 and the standard 2.5 size (a 490 Glow KRI Warm Jacket to be precise). So the last couple of weeks has seen some excellent Mackerel fishing from our local beaches. There hasn't been massive numbers, but let's be honest, who needs 50 mackerel every session, but fish it right and you'll get a good dozen or so each session. What has been very good is the size this year. This 37cm Mackerel was the best from last night's little session down Steamer, but with the smallest measuring 32cm it was a good bag of fish! We still get a lot of people in the sh...op saying there's no Mackerel around as they've been feathering and had none. Our beaches have never been very good feathering beaches (20 years ago this was the case, I do wish people would listen! lol). Unless you're lucky enough to stumble across a big shoal boiling in close, pop up rigs will always be a better option on our shallow beaches. It's also a lot less effort!! If you're unsure on what a "pop up rig" is then please just ask us, we'll show you everything you need to know. It's a lot easier than you think!
