‘The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”’ – Genesis 2:18 (NIV)
As far back as Genesis, God saw the importance of community. In the act of making Eve for Adam, he proclaimed that we are not intended to be alone; that we are infinitely more powerful when we are together, unified.
This year, Christians Against Poverty, for which I am patron, has been campaigning for an end to the desolate isolation brought about by pove...rty. Millions across the UK are trapped with nobody to talk to, or silenced due to fear and shame, when they are most in need of help. However, through organisations like CAP and the local Church, God is at work, placing the lonely in families.
Today, will you join me in saying this prayer for those who are isolated and lonely?
Heavenly Father, thank you that through your generous love for us, you taught us how to love one another.
We pray you would make your Church a refuge for the isolated, filled with people ready to welcome in new brothers and sisters; a reminder of your love; a place where they would find family.
Lord, we ask that this Christmas you would send your Holy Spirit to anyone who is lonely, so that they may know that they are never truly alone.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
– Written by Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury and CAP’s Patron

Not long until you get to watch Emma and Missy's heartwarming story in full! We're so excited to share this with you. You're going to love it! Keep your eyes peeled from 6pm this evening.

User

Through the support of CAP and her local church, and receiving a hamper at Christmas, Emma got to experience the joy of God's generous love. She chose to make a commitment to Jesus, a decision which has not only impacted her own life, but her children's too. Her daughter, Missy, loves to tell her classmates about her friend Jesus!

It's here! We hope you enjoy this video as much as we loved making it. Thank you to Emma and Missy for sharing their amazing story, to everyone who helped create the video, and to Rend Collective for letting us use their beautiful version of O Holy Night.

At Christmas, Emma's local church was able to deliver a hamper to her family, an expression of love that broke down the walls of fear and isolation once and for all. Like so many, the hamper meant much more to Emma than the physical items inside.

In case you missed it last night, here's our Chief Exec Matt Barlow and former client Denise speaking on the BBC Six O'clock News.

User

When Elaine and Maureen from CAP arrived at her house, armed with a practical solution and a whole church community behind them, a light began to shine through the darkness of Emma’s situation.

User

No one around Emma knew the struggles she was going through. Like so many, she lived in fear of speaking out, convinced there was no way out and terrified her kids would be taken away from her. But hope was just around the corner...

User

Pop your telly on because we're being told that Matt Barlow and former client Denise will be on the BBC One six o'clock news tonight! (If we don't get on... it will probably be tomorrow night instead but they're telling us it's 90% likely.) How wonderful to give a voice to people who struggle with debt!

User

As she battled against rising debts, Emma hit her lowest point, struggling to afford food for her children or nappies for her baby.
This Christmas there's always hope. See Emma's amazing story in full at 6pm this Thursday.

User

In the run up to the release of our heartwarming Christmas appeal film, you'll want to know a bit about what Emma's life was like before CAP and her local church came along.
When she went on maternity leave, Emma's income stopped and she quickly spiralled into debt. Suffering with postnatal depression on top of the constant demands and enforcement agents banging at her door, things went from bad to worse.
This Christmas there's always hope. Catch the full film here from 6pm on Thursday.

Was £32K in debt with credit cards - with excellent credit rating.

With CAP managing everything, It took 6 long, painful (for me as I had to stop using my cards) years to be declared 'debt free'.

With the debtors sidelining CAP, who had my DOA, trying to bully me.

Today, debt free and just bought my first home earlier this year!

And regularly donate to CAP each month, so they can continue the good work.

Transforms lives and transforms churches. My church in Southampton opened a CAP Debt Centre about eight years ago - one of the best things we ever did. I'm now in Yorkshire and working for CAP, so can say they are also a great employer.

User

The first time I heard about this charity was when two amazing people from CAP came to one of the town's churches and shared what they do and why they do it. So many have got out of the misery of being stuck in worrying debt by this charities' hard work and dedication, and of course those that donate to help them to do that work. I feel CAP is more needed now than ever, I would urge anyone to help them in any way that they are able to.

User

The day I made that phone call to CAP was the best decision. Today I can say with joy that I am completely debt free. Thanks to CAP and all their hard working staff. God continued blessings, as you continue helping people out of debt

User

Thank you, will NEVER be enough for all of the help, patience and understanding from everyone that I have had contact with from CAP. Mike and Steph, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, you will never know just how much you have helped me. Everyone at CAP thank you so very much for everything, God bless each and every one of you.

Since loosing my father 10 yrs ago I went from a single working mom living with my father to a working single mom having to pay EVERYTHING!! I went to debt management company’s .. of which I payed into and was charged and was getting To the point of having no money to buy food. I was introduced to CAP about two years ago and my life has never been the same since ..yes I’m still in debt but CAP are helping me to manage that debt and it’s going well so far 😄. I have also give my life to Jesus and I’m living the life that I was meant to live... I love being in my day!! Thank you Jesus .Amen

On Friday the 16th of June 2017 I received the call to say that I am debt free. I didn't know what to say I was full of gratitude and Praise to God. A few days after it didn't sink it. What a feeling to know I have no debts... absolutely own no one.

“Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.” Galatians 5:1

Thanks to CAP I am debt free! Also, thanks to my God for answering my prayers. The word He had given me regarded my fiance is decreeing a thing and it shall be established. Job 22:28, and be still and know that he is my God. Psalm 46:10. I have been declaring over my life that I am debt free first in the spiritual realm and it has manifested in the natural. Praise to God

Nicky and Judy from CAP came to my home they were very understanding. They didn't judge me and they made everything easy to understand. They prayed with me.

To anyone who is afraid or embarrassed about contacting CAP don't be it'll be the best decision you make!

I can tell you that being in debt can have such a Bio-Psycho-Social effects whether it’s considered “good debt” or “bad debt,” the truth is, any debt can cause serious emotional, Debt is about much more than money.

Special thank you to Nicky and Judy from CAP.

There is total freedom and liberty in Christ Jesus.

I struggled with debt as well as various health problems for the last 20 years. Within 6 months of meeting with cap I am now debt free. It feels like an enormous weight lifted from me. I can now answer my door and open my mail without fear. They were unfailingly helpful, polite, knowledgeable and patient on the occasions I contacted them. I can't recommend them highly enough.

User

I am so very happy to tell the world I am now debt free. I couldn't have done it without the help of CAP. I bless the day I plucked up courage & made that first call to them. There was no judgement, only a very sympathetic ear on the end of the phone & so much help & understanding. You have turned my life around in many ways CAP, & for that I will be eternally grateful. I would certainly recommend anyone to contact you if they are in heavy debt, you have shown me that anything can be achieved with your fantastic help. Thank you is nowhere near enough but I do thank you all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all, Carol xx

CAP are a hands on charity bringing much needed practical help and a plan to those who are struggling with debt. Hands on, compassionate help is transforming the lives of ordinary people who are sometimes emotionally on the brink of suicide because of the pressure of debt. Help is here and it's comes hand in hand with the love of Jesus, no strings attached. CAP is an inspiration.

After working with CAP for 8 years we are now debt free. They have been great at dealing with all the places we owed money to and took the stress out of the constant paperwork we used to get. God has done a good thing setting up this group of people to help others. We will always be grateful for the time and effort they spent in helping us on the road to financial freedom. Thank you all. God Bless you.
