We are lucky enough that the footpaths around the farm go through our small woods.... why not visit the farm for a walk this weekend ... and here are three little known facts to mull over as you enjoy a stroll in the autumn sunshine:
1. Trees in woods communicate with each other through a fungal network or ‘wood wide web’. Fungi have fine threads that spread underground called mycelium. Trees use mycelium like an underground internet to link with other trees and plants. They ...use these networks to communicate, such as to warn each other of danger. They also use them to share nutrients, older trees will pass nutrients to their offspring that are growing nearby. These partnerships are called ‘mycorrhiza’
2. Lots of research provides evidence that woods benefit our health. Studies have shown that patients with views of trees out their windows heal faster and with fewer complications. Children with ADHD show fewer symptoms when they have access to nature. Being near trees helps our concentration by reducing mental fatigue. One study discovered that a woodland stroll had beneficial effects on blood pressure, heart rate and the immune system. Spending time in woods and forests, or even just around trees, is proven to boost our health and wellbeing.
3. The UK is the second least wooded country in Europe after Ireland. In comparison Europe’s average tree cover is 44%. Not enough trees are being planted in the UK meaning we could soon be in a period of deforestation.
Source Woodland Trust
Since 1999, we have planted over 12000 trees at Church Farm, plus our native orchard and walnut orchard :-).
Remember our pub and cafe are dog friendly should you wish to end the day with a bite to eat, a steaming hot chocolate or a pint by the real fire.

What a wonderful experience we all had while camping at Church Farm. Our group consisted of 4 adults and 5 children aged from 6 - 13.

We booked the 3 youngest onto to the farmers day and they are still talking about it they had so much fun and learnt so much from lovely farmer Tom. The highlight was collecting 275 eggs!! While the children were farming us adults enjoyed a few local ales and a game or two of darts in the jolly wagner pub also on site.

The camp was friendly and tidy and people were alway around to help, as this is a working farm there was plenty to see and do for both adults and children.

User

What a fab little place. Had toast and hot chocolate in the cafe, a bit of banter with the lovely staff (get marmite ;) ). Then went on what We thought would be a short ramble to see the piggies, turns out the place is huge and we ended up walking for nearly two hours it was wet due to the rotten weather, we swam in large puddles came across lots of animals and wild birds and for a short while I thought I was crocodile Dundee. . Got back to the car looking like a mud monster from feet to below knee but with a massive smile on my face. . Loved every minute. Thank you

User

We had a morning at Church Farm bottle feeding the lambs and egg collecting. We had a lovely time and my step daughter even said it was the best day of her life! We’ve been here a few times and always enjoyed ourselves, the food in the cafe is excellent too. Highly recommend this place for a family day out

User

We had a family cycling weekend staying in a glamping bell tent ,we loved the place, excellent cafe for breakfast , fabulous pub for evening meals, serving produce from the farm. Staff were very helpful and kind , Claire our host was just lovely. Particularly enjoyed picking fruit in the huge orchard. Toilets and showers are not the finest but are adequate . The area is a beautiful place to cycle in .

User

We booked our long weekend glamping at Church Farm a couple of weeks before. Bear in mind we live 1 mile away it was possibly the most fun, relaxed time we have had. Met by the wonderful Farmer Claire and shown our gorgeous immaculate new Bell Tent. Decorated gorgeously with such beautiful touches.

The beds were so comfortable and we slept so well despite the most spectacular storm!! The food is incredible. We will be back..... and finally it’s so good there our next door neighbour was camping too..... why travel when we have this on our doorstep!!!

User

Took my little cousin here today. Despite a bit of rain and mud, we had a great time! The staff are so welcoming and kind (especially the lady in the shop). We got to stroke the little lambs, saw the cutest piglets and baby chicks. You can buy animal food in the shop and it was really fun feeding them. My cousin enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and her prizes ďż˝

User

Just back from an amazing stay at Church Farm, and it didn't disappoint! Fantastic private section of field, although we did pop our heads out of our tent to find that someone had pitched in our field, he was inoffensive so we didn't want to tell him to move after his effort to put his tent up. Tom, the campsite manager, was just absolutely amazing, and helped whenever we needed advice re fires, bikes, wood etc. The weather was fantastic until a storm hit, but that made the adventure even more exiting for the kids. Just great! Next time I think Ill book one of the bell tents because they look brilliant too. Great!! Thank you so much Tom, and thanks Church Farm for having us!

User

Had the most amazing time at the farm stayed in a wood cabin .... the simple things in life is all you need the staff and the farm are amazing.... clean facilities and amazing food in the cafe and the pub ...the kids loved the egg picking and feeding all the animals. We saw so many wildlife bats and badgers e.g... I would defo coming back for a another adventure...🦇🦉🌲🐑🐂

User

Everyone should visit here! The facilities are brilliant and the farm itself is beautiful and fantastically run. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay special, I could not fault it in any way. I recommend staying in their lovely cabins, heated by a log burner, it was pretty magical. Loads to keep the kids and adults busy and the animals are extremely well cared for. The Rural Care Farm is a fantastic place which offers so much for the people attending. If, like me, you are attending a course there then forget staying in a hotel, stay on site and you will not regret it! I could not have asked for a friendlier, cosy, beautiful and special time than I had at Church Farm, 5 stars is not enough to express how highly I recommend it here! A massive thankyou to all the hard working staff for creating such a special environment, I will definitely be visiting again!

User

Amazing!!! Took my daughter for the first time today and she loved it! We got to collect eggs, feed the lambs and then take a tractor tour all around the farm. Had lunch in the cafe which was delicious and then picked up some lovely fresh produce from the farm shop before leaving. Will definitely be recommending to all my friends! Thank you for a lovely day!

User

Really lovely campsite, and we’d definitely use it again.

There was plenty of space to pitch in, we didn’t feel at all crowded. The group next to us sadly ignored the rule about amplified music, but the owner very quickly sorted that out. Shame about the swearing at full volume (the neighbouring group not us!) but there wasn’t a lot to be done about that except ignore it. A camper van did briefly pitch up between us but soon moved - to the far side of the field! - presumably because of the noise and swearing.

The prices are a bit on the high side given the very basic facilities, but the food on sale at the farm shop was excellent. I totally recommend the bacon, it was delicious, and the eggs are really creamy ďż˝. And even better, they stock some really yummy relishes, including my favourite Manfood ones!

Plenty of taps to get drinking water, although they could be better labelled, or marked on the site map would be handy.

We bought feed for the animals, but think we timed it wrong because they all seemed deeply uninterested lol.

The staff were very willing to help, but sometimes seemed a bit confused about what was going on. There could do with being more of them, as the girls in the shop looked a bit overwhelmed with numbers of customers.

Other reviewers have mentioned plane noise being a problem, but I can’t say that i noticed that at all. It was lovely being woken by the dawn chorus and being able to just lay back and listen to it undisturbed

We were only there one night as we had commitments elsewhere on the 3rd day of the bank holiday, but would have happily stayed another night... next time!

User

Just had a quick impromptu camping weekend here which my 2 kids & I thoroughly enjoyed. It was quiet so plenty of space around our tent to play football & throw a frisbee. Camping was £30 for 3 of us per night. This included being able to walk around the farm & play areas. Lots of clean portaloo toilets scattered around. There was a shower - which was lovely & hot. The kids enjoyed playing on some bales of hay for most of the day. On Sat eve they lit & large communal bonfire for everyone to enjoy & they cooked decent burgers & sausages for everyone for £4 each. We enjoyed it & made friends with other families & children around us. Kids had to make their own entertainment/ games etc as there wasn’t that much to see and do there - so you get out of it what you put into it. I thought all staff that we dealt with were friendly & helpful esp Farmer Tom & Farmer Sam. My 5 year old did the egg hunting experience for £10 and loved it. So a perfectly relaxing experience was had by all.

User

Just back from two nights stay in one of your Clay Pits cabins. It was the first time camping for my 5 year old and he loved it.

The staff are great, friendly and helpful. The shop and it's products are fantastic too. The meat we bought to cook was delicious.

The only gripe is that the cabins and facilities could do with a bit of work. Our cabin was full of cobwebs and dead insects. Nothing a quick sweep couldn't fix.

The compost toilets were fine, but the shower and washing facilities could do with fixing up and it wouldn't hurt to add a couple more cubicles.

Otherwise- great experience, good value.

User

Just back from a fantastic camping stay at Church Farm. We were 9 families camping in tents in a 'small reserved area'. Lovely big field and our roped off area was perfect for 9 tents, a couple of gazebos for shade and an area we used for BBQs and a campfire in the evening and lots of room for all the kids to run about and play. The facilities are very basic in the camping field (portaloo and compost toilet, fresh water and washing up sink) and the loos got a bit disgusting over the day though staff came and cleaned regularly. I think the price is quite high, but saying that, we knew what we were getting when we booked and in the light of that, can't complain. Long queue to check in due to short staffing but that was only that half hour and rest of time seemed to run smoothly. Staff charming even when faced with a grumbling queue... Farm cafe, shop and animals / trail all went down well with our group. Overall we had a brilliant time, thanks!

User

We've camped at church Farm before and really enjoyed it. But now we are paying for all members of our family I feel ÂŁ40 is a bit steep especially considering the toilets weren't very pleasant this visit. I appreciate the weather is hot but they were both too full so very unpleasant.

User

We camped over the weekend for the first time having heard lots of good things from friends who camp with you regularly.

We stayed with friends who’d booked a cabin in Pits wood. It was quiet with all the facilities we needed close by.

We decided to have food at the pub on Saturday evening only to find that there was only a barbecue available. We paid £6.50 each for a burger and very depleted salad. The poor man on the barbecue was trying his best but was working alone so the wait time for food was ages. There were not enough tables so we ended up hanging about, eating our food and leaving. It was very disappointing more so as we didn’t feel very welcome.

I don’t think we’ll return to the pub but we may camp again.

User

Visited with my 1 year old yesterday and was a bit disappointed. On arrival I needed to eat so I headed to the Cafe, the young girl behind the till had clearly never been taught customer service as she was dreadful. I had to look around for a menu (the only thing visible was the drinks, nothing near the counter or on the tables) which she eventually handed me after I stood there for ages looking like an idiot. Once Id ordered I asked if there were high chairs, only to be told really dismissively “there is one but Id have to go and look for it”, which she never did, so bubs had to stay in his pushchair in the cafe while I ate as I couldn’t leave him to go hunting for it myself. You would think that somewhere that is aimed at families would have easily accessible high chairs. The chips and coffee were good but I didn’t get to finish them as my son wasn’t happy being still strapped into his buggy.

The farm itself was ok but rough around the edges (not just because its a farm!), the signage left a bit to be desired and everything just felt a bit run down. The woodland playground was lovely but finding Rainbow Bridge (animal cemetery) was unexpected, and creepy. As it was hot we decided to use the indoor play area after a while which was nice to have access to, but again felt a bit unloved, my son didn’t seem to mind though. Having seen social media posts by Church Farm I was expecting something a bit more professional I think. We will go back as little one enjoyed it but just with slightly lower expectations and a travel high chair

User

We've just returned home from a cabin stay at church farm. I'd love to give it more stars unfortunately for the money I paid I expected more. The cabin was nothing more than a shed that had never been cleaned by the looks of it, the mattress was covered in dead bugs and mould and the outdoor area was so overgrown we had to fight our way through stinging nettles and brambles to get the the bench which had never been maintained. So the paint was so peeled you couldn't even sit on it.

And I paid ÂŁ25 for a fire package worth ÂŁ15 which we had to carry ourselves all the way to the cabin from the shop!

All in all we tried to make the most of it but it seems the main concentration is on the farming and the cabins are left to fend for themselves. It's a real shame because it could have been lovely holiday.

User

It was our first visit to you today. I booked lamb feeding at 1pm for my recently bereaved mum and my friend and arrived at 12 to have lunch first only to be told ‘no food orders for at least another 40 minutes as kitchen backed up! There were probably 8 people in the cafe and about 8 people outside. No where near full! Appalling! It's a cafe that serves food 'for lunch time'! So we just ordered 2 teas and a coke and waited 30 mins for that! And £6.50! Not even sandwiches or their quiche available! The Jolly Waggoner were only doing hot main meals so it ruined, what was supposed to be a good day for my mum. Silly waitress said ‘sorry were really busy today’! Of course you would be! Errr look at the weather forecast, know it’s bank holiday and be so much more prepared, food and staff wise! Glad we found Mill End Tea Rooms - highly recommend!

Will not return to Church Farm! The lamb feeding was good though. It seems there are a lot of reviews that say the same about your cafĂŠ - people too young serving and extremely long wait times. It's a shame this is letting you down. Maybe time to review the CafĂŠ!
