About Churchdown Osteopaths

Churchdown Osteopaths was started in 1978 by Clive and Liz Hayden, and has grown rapidly over the years. We currently have 8 osteopaths plus a counsellor working in the practice.

Churchdown Osteopaths Description

Churchdown Osteopaths can be described as a true family practice, having something to offer people of all ages. Osteopathy is best known for the treatment of back pain, but osteopaths treat people not conditions, and take into consideration all aspects of health in each individual. We have a special interest in the treatment of babies and children.

Treatment is for the most part done using the very subtle, gentle but powerful cranial approach to osteopathy, and is applied to all areas of the body.

You can help by voting for her through the Aviva community page which would give funding to support another amazing ‘pop up’ gym for disabled kids.

My good friend Stephanie is behind this not for profit organisation. Is well worth supporting.

When you are in pain it is common to feel tired and emotionally low, this is so common that as Osteopaths we consider it to be a secondary symptom of back pain. Patients regularly report feeling better both physically and emotionally after treatment. So it is lovely to see some research that demonstrates this.

This link shows some great images and animations of what happens when discs herniate, this can be one of the causes of sciatica. As Osteopaths, we often find that there are twists and strains either from trauma or posture related that increase the load on the discs and lead to damage and degeneration. Depending on the severity of the damage, releasing these strains can reduce to the loading on the discs and allow them to heal.

A new therapy that blends osteopathy and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) can help children with mild chronic fatigue syndrome and ME, a study has found: http://bit.ly/2xLlqJx

This is some interesting research showing the effect of concussion on the brain. This is what osteopaths feel when treating the effects of concussion on the delicate brain tissue, and osteopathy is unique as a means of helping to release these patterns to allow the brain a better chance to recover.

Interesting research, showing that blood supply to the brain is the key, then the body can clean itself up to restore brain function.

Some interesting research was published this week demonstrating that osteopathic treatment reduced the length of stay for patients hospitalised for pneumonia.
In any chest infection, Osteopathic treatment can help to improve rib movement and release tension in the big muscle of the diaphragm, this helps improve depth of breathing and helps drainage of the lungs.

This lady is Viola Fryman an American osteopath, who sadly died recently in her mid 90's. Dr Fryman devoted her life to treating children, and was a real inspiration to the osteopathic profession.
