What an amazing place!

The room was beautiful, with some fabulous little touches. (such as free fudge and port!)

The meal was amazing! Thank you Ben. Our waitress was extremely friendly and very helpful.

We would definitely recommend this fabulous place and really hope to be able to go back again.

We’ve had a lovely stay at the hotel, the staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was lovely, stylish but still cosy. Would’ve wanted to stay longer if we hadn’t have booked return tickets already! Breakfast was delicious as well. All in all one of the loveliest places/accommodations/ we’ve been to yet. Could recommend to anyone!

I can't start to tell you how happy I was we found this gem! The rooms were amazing!!! Spotless, comfy, luxurious, beautiful and stylish. The Shower and bathroom were gorgeous. Spotlessly clean and the complimentary toiletries were biodegradable and lovely. Showing wonderful thought had been given to even this small thing. The bed and bedding were so comfy, feather and memory foam and big enough to fit a small family. The complimentary fudge, port, great coffee and tea were a fantastic touch. The staff were just lovely and attentive without being in your face with good chat and humour. The food was fantastic and the walled beer garden with heaters was perfectly perfect for a sunny May evening. The graff on the various garden ornaments was such a great touch to add a bit of edge. The Drinks selection available at the bar were spot on and the bar decor and feel were class. Negatives which were not even relevant, there is no parking but it's literally 100 yards away and cost me £1.50! And breakfast was a little slow but we needed to leave at a certain time so seemed more relevant. If you're in no rush then it's no problem.

Room 8 is AMAZING!

And the wiltshire ham and poached egg muffin with Hollandaise sauce for breakfast is out of this word. Amazing coffee too!!!!

I can echo all of the great comments already made, we had 2 rooms booked yesterday as a stop over on our way to Cornwall, couldn't of asked for more, from check-in to check-out, all staff were amazingly helpful, nothing was too much trouble, helped us with luggage/pram etc, dinner reservations, room requests, food requirements. Rooms were perfect from decor to facilities, nice little touches all complimentary including, port & fudge, water, Nespresso machine, quality teas, and bathroom products, decent shower. Food at dinner and breakfast was lovely, great choice at decent prices, with again all staff accommodating and attentive. All in all we had a lovely stay and were pleasantly surprised at the level of customer service. A big thankyou to all involved, after a 5 hour drive it was much appreciated and got our holiday off to a great start.

Have had many great meals here. Food is always tasty, as is the beer. Waiters are attentive, but not overbearing and the atmosphere is incredibly pleasant. They also have a great children’s menu and not too expensive.

Food taste delicious, the atmosphere is really really good! Absolutely a chilling place for everyone to come and enjoy their wonderful meals and drinks! Ohh..and the service here is perfect! My new favorite restaurant in Exeter!���

Fantastic drink and a great bang for your buck menu, serving the freshest and best food you could hope for in this stunning city location! The new head chef has raised the bar to a whole new level off greatness. Will be stopping for breakfast again

The breakfast at the city gate was delicious, different & definitely to be tried again. I loved the little twists of the full English breakfast, but with a potato cake (bubble & squeak), selection of jams, honey & marmite & nothing was too much trouble. We will be back for more lovely food.

Absolutely amazing service. Tim K was a star!! Nothing too much perfect service from all other staff also. However Tim K had finished his shift and clocked out and still bringing us our drinks was of no bother too him, he engaged in chat and just generally put a smile on our faces (this doesn't happen often) thank you so much. You should be proud you have such an asset to your team xx

What a lovely boutique hotel . The staff were all very helpful and attentive . We had some problems with our rooms but staff took it on board and helped out . When they couldn’t find the source of the crazy loud vibration in our room late at night they threw in a free breakfast to make up for it . The prices are fair for drinks and food , we live in Hertfordshire, and believe me we truly know what expensive IS! We had dinner here and it was delicious , and beautifully presented . Highly recommend

Had a very pleasant evening with excellent food and beer and the serving staff were friendly and attentive with out being in your face.

Not cheap but worth it for special occasions.

Came here for dinner and drinks with a friend last night. We found the wine was a bit pricey but Tim was an attentive server and the food was very tasty. It's been very tastefully refurbished; the new decor is lovely. Will be back again to enjoy the lovely beer garden although sad to see the pond is gone.

We were in a room overlooking the very busy street. Lots of loud parties walking by in the middle of the night. Nice room, though. I'd recommend asking for a room facing the back. Lounge areas were really nice and relaxing.

Great venue and staff, but seriously over priced.



The garden is amazing, really couldn't commend it more. The interior is really good too.



The staff are very friendly too.



Drinks are crazy expensive: £4.30 for a Thatchers and £4.80 for Aspall.



Food is pretty pricey too considering portions are small and of mediocre quality.



So yeah... I like the place, would go if friends were, but would never choose it.
