Claire'S Proper Cakes

A day in the life of a cake maker with her own business.
I just thought I’d write about what is involved In making my afternoon teas and parties.
So, firstly the order is placed, this could take a few messages back and forth before we actually finalise the order, whether I’m out for the day with my children, away for the weekend or at home, I stop whatever I’m doing to reply to your message as soon as I can.
... I then have to go shopping, if the order has been placed for a Saturday I tend to go shopping on the Wednesday, sometimes I will go to 3 different shops to get the ingredients that are on offer so I am able to do this for you for as reasonable a price as possible, of course this takes time and petrol. I then sit and work out what bits I make on what day as, the fresher the better, everything I make for you is homemade, including the sandwich fillings, this will take a lot of my time, the cost of my electric and all the worry for me to get it out at the standard I want it at for you, this will be done over 2 days.
I start making your order on the Thursday and some bits on the Friday, on the Saturday I set my alarm for 4.30am to make your sandwiches, scones and sausages rolls so they are fresh for delivery on the day. I then deliver to your home, of course this takes more petrol and time, I then set up using my own cake stands etc, so you will get the same effect as you would when you have an afternoon tea out, the difference is, you don’t need to leave your home or pay to get to your destination and you can enjoy your afternoon tea experience in the comfort of your own home. I then collect my cake stands from you on a different day, this of course again takes more time and petrol.
I do all of this for a maximum of £10.00 a head for adults (depending on what you want) and £7.00 for children and if you place a large order, I give a discount. To go out for an afternoon tea it would normally be around £18.00 (or more) depending on where you book, plus travel. Also, I don’t take a deposit, so if an order is cancelled, I loose out on the money, as I do understand that sometimes things happen.
I absolutely love the feedback I get on my teas and parties, it’s been amazing, I love seeing people faces when it’s all finished.
I really enjoy my job, but that’s what it is, it’s a job
Below is a selection of a few of the afternoon teas I have made for my customers, you can see that I try and make it look as nice as possible for you, a lot of time, effort but, mainly love goes into all of my orders.

HAPPY no.5 to this adorable princess
So, yesterday I made, delivered and set up a ‘princess party’ for a gorgeous little princess to enjoy with her friends. 👸 🎉🎈she was so excited as I was setting up ❤️
A sandwich selection, sausage rolls, vegetable kebabs, a selection of packets of crisps, chocolate biscuit cake, chocolate dipped strawberries and some Princess cupcakes with pink and purple sprinkles, all set up on floral cake stands and a floral table cloth.

3 x jam filled victoria sponge cupcakes topped with a swirl of vanilla icing and finished off with a strawberry on the top 🍓 🎂
3 x Lemon curd filled cupcakes with vanilla swirled icing, grated lime and finished off with more lemon curd 🍋 🎂
... Also, a double layer vanilla sponge cake ready to finish with Strawberries and cream when ready to eat 🤤

Hi everyone 👋
I will be holding an afternoon tea at my house, on Monday 15th July 2019 @ 12.30-5pm, in aid of breast cancer and, in memory of my beautiful mum (who sadly passed away due to this awful illness) 😢 and In support of anyone who has gone through/going through cancer 😡 ❤️ and, to my gorgeous friend , who has battled this and come out the other side ❤️ (you know who you are) ❤️ you are all amazing ❤️
I will supply the tea/coffee and soft drinks, sandwiches and cakes..., all you need to do is turn up and enjoy, all I ask for is a donation towards this charity.

Strawberries and cream Victoria sponge cake
If you’re not keen on the butter icing or fondant icing, but still love cake, why not replace it with cream.
Yesterday. I made a vanilla sponge with jam and cream between the layers and topped it off with strawberries and cream 🎂 🍓🤤

Blue or Pink? 💙💕 Pink or blue ? 👶 🍼 what will it be? 😍 👶
I am going to be doing ‘gender reveal’ cupcakes. I’ll make a cupcake, take the inside out of the cake and fill with either pink or blue icing, I’ll then top the cupcake with white icing and when everyone bites into the cake it will reveal the sex of the baby

Quickest delivery to date, afternoon tea ordered, made and delivered within 4 hours. I took the cakes out 45 minuets before delivery, they could not be fresher.
