Getting legal advice shouldn't be terrifying. It's my aim to make sure that businesses of all sizes can feel comfortable getting in touch about these issues, and ways to prevent them from occurring in the first place.

**SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY** It’s today people!! Get out there and support as many small businesses as you can. You don’t have to buy something to be supportive. Shout outs, recommendations, leave them reviews, write testimonials, share their social media posts, like and comment on their posts, tag them in your own posts, SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS that they exist. I promise you it makes a big difference. There’s lots of events on in the run up to Christmas, pop along to them, show up, buy a cuppa, take some photos and share them around, check in on Facebook. Every little action helps us small businesses get seen, and being seen means that someone, somewhere might just think “oh great, I was looking for that” and ta-da you’ve helped and supported that small biz without it costing you a penny. Warm feelings all round 😇

I’ve been chatting on the Small Business Saturday sofa today.

In the lead up to Small Business Saturday on 1 December the team are taking a bus on tour around the country – a roadshow if you like. At each bus stop there will be an exhibition of small businesses, mentoring sessions, and the chance to network with other businesses. As a consumer it will give you the chance to see a showcase of small businesses you might not otherwise be aware of. Plus you’ll be visiting the town centre where you can take the opportunity to check out other small businesses.
I’m going to be at the St Albans bus stop on Tuesday 27 November, 10am to 2pm. Please pop by and say hi if you’re in the area (there will be chocolate biscuits…).

Small Business Saturday is coming up on 1 December. I've shared my thoughts on a few of my favourite service-based businesses on my website.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

There’s been a lot of talk about the Stacey Dooley report on fast fashion that aired this week. 📺 As consumers become more eco-aware, demand is driven up for ethical products, sourced and made responsibly, and made to last and endure. It’s certainly something that gets a lot of thought in my house. This blog post from the brilliant The Wise House highlights some of the clothing brands out there with responsible sourcing and products. 🛍 What’s lovely (for me!) to see in this... list is that the companies are all unique and well-named, from a trade mark perspective. ((PeopleTree, Celtic & Co, TWOTHIRDS, bibico)) You might be thinking of setting up a new company, or a new product line with these kind of values. And the temptation may be to use words like ECO ♻️, ENVIRO 🌎 or GREEN 🍃 within that name. If you do, try to include another element that stands out or is unusual. The UK trade mark office will reject trade mark applications with these words if the whole name is descriptive ⛔️ Which also means that you’ll struggle to keep the name for just your business. So stand out, choose a name that reflects your values for sure, but also have an eye on being unique and memorable. Oh, and then #protectyouroriginality ®️ Get in touch with me and I’ll help sort it all out for you so that you can get on with helping to save the planet. ✔️
