Class 13

Class 13 is an award-winning charity training and supporting organisations and professionals working with children and young people to develop a pedagogical practice that actively challenges systemic inequity. We believe that the biggest barrier facing young people in education today is teacher perceptions due to deficit ideology. Using a democratic education model we encourage professionals to engage in critical reflection to recognise, understand and dismantle deficit ideology and build a more equitable practice. Our long-term aim is that young people and teachers are more engaged in learning. We want schools to step away from a punitive zero tolerance approach to education and move toward a view of education as a practice of freedom, with a central focus on recognising each young person as an individual and nurturing critical thought.
