Year 11 Netball V Woodbridge
After quite a break since our last game, the girls were eager to get back on court. This was definitely demonstrated in their play, as they had a dominating start, going 5-0 up. There was some outstanding defending by Macey and Beth, who put pressure on the oppositions shooters to keep a clean sheet in the first quarter. Claydon slowed their pace in the second quarter, only scoring 2 goals but were confidently still ahead. In the third quarter, Woodbridge found their stride and scored three quick goals to lessen the deficit. However, Claydon remained strong in the final quarter scoring another five and sealing the win. Well done to the whole team and thank you to Lily W who stepped in at the last minute to help the team out as we only had a straight seven.

⛷ Skiing Championships - Congratulations!
Congratulation to Year 8 student George Wood, who recently took part in the English Alpine Skiing Championships.
With 76 competitors racing in the under 14s category, George had stiff competition from boys all over the UK, including some that actually live in mountain resorts in Europe!
... Taking part in events such as the Slalom, Super G and Giant Slalom, George was confident and had trained hard leading up to the championships. Despite the challenge of a new discipline in one event, and a nasty crash on one of the very steep and icy pistes, George finished in an impressive 12th place overall in the competition which is a fantastic achievement! His academy, Ambition Racing, finished 2nd place, narrowly missing out on the top spot by 2 points.
The skiing, even at this age, is fast and furious and requires immense strength and discipline to excel. We wish George all the best for the upcoming British Championships to be held in France in April.

Year 10 Netball V St Joseph's
Claydon looked in control from the start and with the execution of lots of accurate passes were able to keep the flow of the game and keep our opposition one step behind. We had a margin of 3 goals going into the second half, but with an injury to one of the St Joseph's players we knew we had to capitalise and stretch the lead out. Shannon had some fantastic close range shots under the post and Bronte worked the circle well in order to pick her shooting spots and we were able to increase our lead further, sealing the win. Player of the Match was awarded to Bronte. Well done to all the team for another win in the league.

Year 9 Netball V St Joseph's
It was the second game of the season and with a straight team of 7 we had little flexibility in the game to change positions and try different combinations. St Joseph's had a strong start which saw them get a healthy lead early on in the first quarter by 6 goals. However, it was an absolute credit to Claydon who dug deep and made it more challenging for them in the remaining three quarters. A special mention to Lily who timed some interceptions perfectly against a very tall shooter to win possession and limit their shots at goal. As the game progressed Claydon took more control of and managed to sink a few goals themselves. St Joseph's took the win though, 11-4.
Well done to the whole team for their efforts; Player of the Match was awarded to Ruby.

U15 Boys' Sportshall Athletics County Finals
The boys competed against the five other best teams in the county in a number of different running races and field events and the competition was extremely tough. The boys started well in the obstacle race finishing 4th with other strong performances from Aaron and Reuben. In the field events, CHS dominated the vertical jump with Harrison and Aaron scoring really well. The rest of the team worked really hard with special mentions to Keiran and Ethan who came in at the last moment and Josh who ran the longer distance race!
Overall the boys gave everything and can be proud of their 5th place finish, well done!

FUTSAL CHAMPIONS!
On Wednesday 5th February, the U15 boys' futsal team travelled to Westbourne Academy. They were representing our region in the Suffolk county tournament, a position they had qualified for a few weeks previous. The boys faced Chantry first and took an early two goal lead. After hitting the woodwork about 5 times, they conceded a sloppy goal. This spurred the team on to play some fantastic futsal with the woodwork taking an absolute pounding. The boys managed ...to fire in another 4 goals before the final whistle. The final score was Claydon 6, Chantry 1 and the woodwork about 20!
After being asked to play their next game straight away, the boys faced the toughest of the two teams, King Edward VI High School. However, with some sublime passing moves Claydon found themselves 3-0 up before half time. By now the boys were dominant and really in the mood and another 3 goals followed before the final whistle, the score line finishing 6-0 to Claydon with a hard earned clean sheet! All the boys played brilliantly but player of the tournament was Callum P.
As winners of the tournament, the boys have now qualified to represent the whole of Suffolk at the regional futsal finals held in Nottingham in March. Very well done!

U14 Girls Football vs Benjamin Britten - County Cup Round 3
The CHS girls crashed out of the County Cup against a very strong team who took their chances really well. CHS started the game brightly with the opposition goalkeeper saving shots from Mollie, Chloe and Hattie. At the other end, a mistake in defence allowed the striker to score which was followed quickly by another ball forward and a goal for our opponents. 2-0 down at half time and the team talk centred around redu...cing the mistakes and continuing to create chances. The girls listened to this incredibly well starting the second half with chance after chance but the CHS strikers were just rushing their shots. Three quick goals from Benjamin Britten put the game beyond CHS but we kept pushing forward creating more chances and finally Hattie took one to make the final score 5-1 to our opponents.
The effort level from the girls was fantastic and the shots on goal count would have been around 30+ but it’s goals that win games and hopefully the girls can learn from this and improve into next season. Player of the Match was Emily in defence. Well done girls!

Tuesday 11th February is Safer Internet Day. This day is a global event and this year's theme is 'Together for a better internet'. Information can be found at: https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-in ternet-day/2020 and students have received assemblies this week on being an ally to those who might need support.
In addition, the police have shared with us a competition which students can take part in. This national competition (which is currently running until the 14th Febr...uary) is called The Matrix Challenge https://www.matrix-challenge.uk/ and is open to all young people in the UK aged 11 to 17. So far over 23,000 have taken place in the first 10 days.
The challenge is online and takes approximately 35 minutes to complete and assumes no prior knowledge while walking the students through 5 different areas including The Computer Misuse Act 1990, staying safe online and a final quiz. Students could potentially move on to the regional semi-final and even a national final event if they do well.
Please do discuss ideas about whether the internet is a free and representative place where they feel safe and what they can do to be safe. We will continue to address these topics across the curriculum.
Many thanks Mr Harris - Assistant Headteacher and Safeguarding Lead

U13 Girls' Sportshall Athletics
The girls had success right from the start on the track with strong 2 lap sprint races from Amelie and Jess. This set the tone for lots of the girls races with some fantastic performances across the different events. For all events the girls flew through the line for the finish as they knew it was all about time and racing against the other heats. To top off the track performances, at the end of the night the girls finished 1st in their heat fo...r the team relay. All girls competitively competed in the field events, earning valuable points for the team.
U13 Boys' Sportshall Athletics
The boys proved equally as strong across the field and track events. They started with some solid performances throwing and jumping to get a positive start in the competition. They then finished on the track, with some superb sprinting by Calum to win his 2 lap relay by some distance. This speed was then very useful again for the final leg of the team relay; Claydon were behind going into the 3rd leg of the relay but Lucas brought Claydon back into contention and Calum was then able to cut the lead down further, only to come second by the smallest of margins. We await final confirmation of results but a great team spirit from all, who when they were not competing, could very easily be heard cheering on their team mates.
